He began his career withBarnetbefore earning a move toPeterborough Unitedin 2020. In his first season, Peterborough won promotion to theChampionship.In the following season, Edwards became a regular starter for the club, winning the Player of the Season award. In the 2023–24 season, Edwards was a member of the Peterborough team that won theEFL Trophyas well as winning theLeague One Young Player of the Seasonaward. His form earned him a £3 million move to Premier League sideSouthampton.He joinedQueens Park Rangerson loan in January 2025.

Edwards has represented England at youth level, winning theUEFA European Under-19 Championshipin2022.He has also played for England atunder-20level.

Club career

Barnet

Edwards joinedBarnetat the age of nine, and progressed through the club's academy, captaining the under-18s.[3]Aged sixteen, he made his senior debut when he captained a young Bees side in aMiddlesex Senior Cupgame againstStaines Townon 17 December 2019.[4]Four days later he made his league debut as a late substitute againstMaidenhead United.[5]He made five appearances for the Bees in the 2019–20 season.[6]

Peterborough United

He joinedPeterborough Unitedafter a successful trial againstPeterborough Sportsin August 2020.[7][8]He made his debut on 8 September 2020 in theEFL TrophyagainstBurton Albion.[9]

Edwards made his full league debut on 15 December 2020 in a 1–1 draw away toMilton Keynes Dons.[10]

The2021–22 seasonsaw Edwards establish himself in the first-team picture. Although the club suffered relegation from theChampionship,the season proved a success on an individual level, winning four awards at the club's end of season awards, including the Player of the Season.[11]

Edwards was awarded theEFL Young Player of the Monthfor January 2024, registering his 100th league start for the club in the same month.[12]He was a member of the Peterborough side that won the2023–24 EFL Trophy,starting in thefinalatWembley Stadium.[13]

Southampton

On 3 July 2024, Edwards joinedPremier LeagueclubSouthamptonon a four-year contract for a reported £3 million.[14][15]He made his debut for the club on 28 August 2024 in a 5–3 away victory againstCardiff Cityin theEFL Cup.[16]On 4 December 2024, Edwards made his Premier League debut in a 5–1 home defeat againstChelseaafter he replacedJames Breein the 78th minute.[17]

Queens Park Rangers (loan)

On 1 January 2025, Edwards joined Championship clubQueens Park Rangerson loan for the remainder of the 2024–25 season.[18]He made his first appearance for the club in a 2–1 victory againstLuton Townon 6 January 2025 after replacingJonathan Varanein the 61st minute.[19]On 14 February 2025, Edwards scored his first goal for the club in a 4–0 victory againstDerby County.[20]

International career

Edwards was called up to a training camp with theEngland U19national team in May 2021.[21]In October 2021, he was called up to the full U19 squad for the friendlyMarbellaCup tournament and made his debut during a 3–1 defeat againstFrance.[22][23]

On 17 June 2022, Edwards was included in the England U19 squad for the2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.[24]He started in the final as England won the tournament with a 3–1 extra time victory overIsraelon 1 July 2022.[25]

On 21 September 2022, Edwards made hisEngland U20debut during a 3–0 victory overChileat thePinatar Arena.[26]On 10 May 2023, Edwards was included in the England squad for the2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.[27][28]He started all four of their games at the tournament including the round of sixteen defeat againstItaly.[29]
