Sönke Neitzel(born 26 June 1968) is a Germanhistorianwho has written extensively about theSecond World War.[1]He is editor of thejournalGerman History in the 20th Centuryand has written several books such asSoldaten: On Fighting, Killing and Dying; The Secret Second World War Tapes of German POWsbased on recordings of German POWs held atTrent Parkwhich he wrote withHarald Welzer.[2]Neitzel edited the bookTapping Hitler's Generals(withHarald Welzer).[2][3][4]

Early life and career
editNeitzel was educated at theUniversity of Mainzand is currently Professor of Military History at theUniversity of Potsdam,having moved there from theLondon School of Economicsin 2015. He has also held posts at theUniversity of Karlsruhe,University of Bern,and theUniversity of Saarbrückenin Germany and Switzerland,[5]and was briefly Professor of Global Security at theUniversity of Glasgowin 2011/12.
Since September 2006 he is married toGundula Bavendamm ,director ofStiftung Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung and daughter of historianDirk Bavendamm .[citation needed]
