Samut Prakan City Football Club(Thai:สโมสรฟุตบอลสมุทรปราการ ซิตี้) is a Thai defunctfootballclub based inSamut Prakan,Thailand. The club last plays inThai League 2.[1]It was renamed fromPattaya Unitedin 2019, following the owner's decision to rename the club and relocate it to Samut Prakan.[2][3]Due to financial problems, the club decided to disband in 2025.[4][5]

The club was founded at the end of the 2018 season after Tanet Phanichewa, owner ofPattaya United,decided to rename the club to Samut Prakan City and relocate it to Samut Prakan Province.[6][7]In their first season, the club competed in the2019 Thai League 1.[8]

Beginnings in the Thai League 1 and Japanese-Thai connection

Prior to the2019 season,The club appointedTetsuya Murayamaas the club firstDirector of football,[9]the work of Tetsuya Murayama in coordination with CoachSurapong Kongthepin the first season of the club in Thai league 1, the club performed quite well and finished in 6th place.[10]

The club appointedMasatada Ishii[11]as manager ahead of the2020–21Thai League 1 season by releasingIbson Melo,Kim Pyung-rae,Baworn Tapla,Phumin KaewtaandWoranat Thongkruea.The club signingTatsuya SakaifromMontedio Yamagata,Yuto OnofromFC Gifuand Brazilian strikerPedro Júnior.[12][13]

The2020–21Thai League 1 season began with 1–1 draw againstChiangrai Unitedon 14 February 2020,[14]followed up by three match lose. The first win in the league came at the 5th matchday, winning 1–0 againstRayongat the Samut Prakarn SAT Stadium on 13 September 2020.[15]After the 10th matchday, the club stood at 12th place in the league.

After a series of disappointing results, The club has won 3 match in a row, winning 1–3 againstBuriram Unitedat theChang Arena,[16]winning Chonburi and Trat and the club climbed to 6th place after the first half of the season (Round 15).[17]The success compared to a relatively smaller team size than the other teams in the league, however, was followed by a win against one of the wealthiest club in the Thai LeaguePort6–3 on 27 December 2020.[18][19]

Samut Prakan City advanced to the third round of theThai FA Cup,being eliminated after losing 1–0 toMuangthong Unitedat theSCG Stadiumon 3 February 2021.[20]

In January 2025, TheFootball Association of Thailandhas punished Samut Prakan City by banning them from the league and fining them 2 million baht.[21]This is due to the team failing to register players and refusing to play in the second leg of the season. The association cited the team's lack of communication and failure to comply withFIFAregulations.[22][23][24]
