Early life

Buck attended Wood River High School in Hailey Idaho, where she took on her first acting roles in their theater productions.[1]Later, she moved toLos Angelesto attend theAmerican Academy of Dramatic Arts.[2]Shortly after graduating, Buck landed her first recurring television role on the seriesParty of Five.[3]

Buck has starred in numerous live theater productions includingPaula Vogel'sPulitzer Prize-winning playHow I Learned to Drivein 2010[4]and in the West Coast premiere ofTen Cent Nightwritten byMarisa Wegrzynin 2009.[5]She was nominated for anOvation Awardfor her performance in 2004'sA Gift From Heaven.[6]

On television, Buck is known for herrecurring roleasGingerin theHBOseriesTrue Blood.[7]She appeared on the show from 2008 to 2014 and was promoted to series regular for the seventh and final season of the show.[8]

In 2008 Tara also completed a motorcycle-themed drama pilot forHBOcalled1%directed byAlan Taylorand written byMichael Tolkin.[9]The show never aired on HBO due to creative conflicts with early Hells Angels organizer and frequent spokesmanSonny Barger.[10]

Buck has made guest appearances onBones,The X-Files,Criminal Minds,[11]Justified,Cold Case,[3]Nip/Tuck,[12]The Shield,Southland,The CloserandBloodline.[9]

In 2016 and 2017, Buck recurred on the fourth and fifth seasons of theShowtimeseriesRay DonovanwithLiev Schreiber.She played patrol cop Maureen Dougherty, anLAPDpatrol cop and love interest to Terry Donovan.[13][14]In the show, Buck's character, Maureen, joined the Donovan family when she married Terry Donovan (Eddie Marsan) in season 5, episode 2, entitled "Las Vegas".[15]

In 2018, Buck guest-starred as Madeline Locarno in the pilot episode for theShondaland-produced show,For The PeopleonABC.

Buck was featured in the crime thrillerTomorrow You’re Gone,in 2013, a film based on the book,Boot Tracks.[16]

The actress has appeared in several independent feature films including the American-Italian-Mexican drama film,Medeasin 2014 withCatalina Sandino Morenoand directed byAndrea Pallaoro.The film premiered at the 70th annualVenice Film Festival,[17]and was well received by critics.[18]She appeared in the horror film,At the Devil's DoorwithNaya Riverathat premiered at theSouth by Southwest(SXSW) film festival in 2014.[19]

Buck was the lead in the 2016 filmGreat Plains,from director [Blair Hayes] and starred in the 2016Judd Apatow[20]Netflixcomedy filmPee-wee's Big Holiday.[12]

She starred inA Mother’s Escapealso in 2016 for theLifetime channel.[21]

In 2017, Buck starred in and executive produced the film,Son of Perdition,a period drama set in the early days of the American frontier which was written and directed by Trevor Riley.[22]

Buck had a supporting role in the crime thriller,Inherit The ViperwithJosh Hartnett.[23]The film had its world premiere at theZurich Film Festivalin 2019 and was released internationally byLionsgatein early 2020.[24]

Personal life

Buck married singer/songwriterChris Piercein 2012.[25]She lives in Southern California with her husband.[citation needed]

The actress is an outspokenfeministand has been a guest speaker for multiple events that address issues ofgender inequalityincluding, among others, "Conversations With Exceptional Women," an annual conference bringing together highly accomplished women from all professional areas to discuss female-related concerns.[26][27]

Buck founded her own production company called She & I Productions. The company, based in Los Angeles, is a film and television production company geared toward female content. Its mission is a commitment to the empowerment of women both in front of and behind the camera.[28]

Buck and her husband are co-owners of a boutique wine label called Ledbetter. Ledbetter Wines can be found in manyCaliforniarestaurants.[29]
