He has written scores for many screen productions, including the BBC FilmRoald Dahl's Esio Trot,HBO'sEntourage,the Starz seriesShining ValeandBecoming Elizabethand the hitChannel 4seriesShameless,[2]andAckley Bridge.He collaboratedPJ Harveyon the music forBritish Academy Television Awards-winning Apple TV+ seriesBad Sisters.

He is Co-Artistic Director ofFilter Theatre,a national and international touring company he co-founded with actors Ferdy Roberts andOliver Dimsdalein 2003. Their productions includeFaster,Three Sisters,Water[3](all at theLyric Hammersmith), a production ofBertolt Brecht's playThe Caucasian Chalk Circleat theNational Theatre,several RSC commissions (SilenceandTwelfth Night), as well asA Midsummer Night's Dream.Filter has enjoyed widespread success with their productions.

Phillips provided the vocals for Murray Gold's "Song for Ten", an original song composed for theDoctor Who2005Christmasspecial, "The Christmas Invasion".[4]
