She was born inSloveniaand moved to Canada with her parents as a child, growing up inMississauga,Ontario.She was educated at theUniversity of Toronto,studyingEnglishandFrench,and atCarleton University,studyingjournalism.

Srebotnjak is married to CBC journalistBrian Stewart.[1]

Career in radio

She joined theCanadian Broadcasting Corporationas a researcher in 1976, and covered the1980 Quebec referendumfor the network. She subsequently returned toTorontoto work as a studio director forMorningside.[2]

Career in television

Srebotnjak leftCBC Radioand moved over toCBC Television,joiningMiddayas an entertainment reporter and later succeedingValerie Pringleas cohost of the program in 1992.

WhenMiddayended its run in 2000,[3]Srebotnjak moved toTVOntario,where she has hosted cultural programming including the (now-defunct) book seriesImprint.[4][5]

Her short story "Becoming Canadian" was published in the bookThe First Man in My Life: Daughters Write About Their Fathersby Sandra Martin.[6]

She worked in the communications and marketing department of theToronto Public Library,[7]from 2007 to 2014.[8]
