Vladimir Petrovich Torchilin(Russian:Владимир Петрович Торчилин,born 1946) is aSoviet,RussianandAmericanbiochemist,pharmacologist,and an expert in medicalnanotechnology.[1]Torchillin is a University Distinguished Professor ofPharmaceutical SciencesatNortheastern University.He also serves as a director at both the Center for Translational Cancer Nanomedicine and at the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University.[1][2]

Torchilin was awarded aMaster of ScienceinPolymer ChemistryfromMoscow State Universityin 1968.[1][3]In 1971 and 1980, he went on to receive hisDoctor of Philosophy(Ph.D.) andDoctor of ScienceinPolymer Chemistryand Chemistry of Physiologically Active Compounds, respectively.[3]

Career

In 1991, Torchillin became the head of the chemistry program, Center for Imaging and Pharmaceutical Research, and associate professor of radiology atMassachusetts General HospitalandHarvard University.[4][3]From 1998 to 2008, he served as the chair of the department of pharmaceutical sciences at Northeastern University.[3]In 2012, Torchillin became a distinguished professor at Northeastern University.[1]
