This page actually has very little personal information about me. IMHO multiple cutesy little infoboxes rather defeat the purpose to anonymity and assumptions of NPOV. Further, they tend to rather clutter up the user pages of those that go overboard with them - again, my opinion. I may add some yet; for now, a babelbox will do. As for my nationality/ethnic background/sexual orientation or preferences/favourite colour/what I like to eat/drink/use, well, they really aren't pertinent, and I try not to let them affect my POV.

What you may know about me:

edit
  • I prefer British spelling (as you can see), but won't go out of my way to "correct" those that prefer American.
  • I hate poor spelling of either form, and will correct misspellings ruthlessly (though I am prone to making typos (typoes?) myself).
  • I will remorselessly add French equivalents and accents to those pages requiring them, and hope that others will add equivalents in other languages as well.
  • I have a very good sense of humour, love a bad pun, and firmly believe that anyone who cannot laugh at themselves will never be able to enjoy life.
  • I try very hard to keep an open mind about all things, and believe that "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" should be the goal and the essence of humanity. However, I dislike "political correctness" and the tedious terminology associated with it. To this end:
  1. Women are in all ways equal to men, but "man" is not a dirty word. My use of "woMAN", "huMAN", "huMANity", and "huMANe" will reflect this.
  2. "Black" and "brown" are colours, and may be used to describe a skin colour. They are not dirty or derogatory words, should never be used as such, and should be reclaimed (IMHO) by black- and brown-skinned people.
  3. "Yellow" and "red" are poor choices when describing skin colour, since nobody really has skin of these colours unless they arejaundiced,orfeveredand/orsunburned,respectively. (As for someone with an Oriental background who has a sunburn, a fever, and hepatitis, the phrase "extremely ill" springs to mind - race seems rather minor at that point!)
  4. "White" is similarly a poor choice when describing skin colour, since Caucasians are essentially pinkish, with browner, lighter etc... hues superimposed. For example, Caucasians who tan (or are from certain geographical areas) are "brown", as are many other peoples. (See some-comedian-whose-name-I-can't-remember's monologue on same.)
  • I have a very good memory, but it's short (see just above!). Therefore, I keep a list of the templates I use/may use below. If I've used one incorrectly, please let me know on my discussion page, and add the appropriate template below...
  • OK, maybe I should add a few infoboxes, but am too occupied with other things to learn how;-) So, feel free to add them for me, but be nice, eh!

Languages

edit
  • I speak the languages shown in the Babel box at right. As well, I am proud to state that I know how to order a beer in German (Deutsch), Spanish (Español) and Japanese (nihon-go), but have no idea how to ask where the toilet is in any of them... which can cause problems. But I can at least say "hello" in all of the above, and a couple of other languages as well. (Oh, and I do a reasonable "beam me up" inKlingon,youp'tach!... but only averoolwould say that...)
