Beginning

edit

Although I joined Wikipedia earlier and I made my first tentative edits in June 2007, I began to contribute more heavily to Wikipedia in the spring of 2008.

In May and June 2008 I did most of my Wikipedia editing and writing for thehealth psychologyentry. Like most Wikipedeans, I built upon what came before me. I added new text, edited previous writing, checked facts including citations, emended citations based on searches of the research literature, and added new citations. I also included two lists of doctoral programs, one in health psychology and the other in occupational health psychology (since removed and moved to the occupational health psychology entry).

In June 2008 I created the entry devoted tooccupational health psychologybecause it is an emergent field within psychology. I thought there was a need for such an entry. However, I did not do much more with the entry than set it up.

Internationalizing

edit

I also tried to internationalize the English entries. I linked the health psychology entry to a parallel entry in French. I also linked the French entry to the English entry. My next step was to initiate an entry on occupational health psychology (OHP) for the French version of Wikipedia, and cross-link the English and French OHP entries. Although I have knowledge of French, I enlisted someone who is more fluent in French than I am to help me with the French OHP entry.

On Nov. 8, 2008, I started a French OHP page,fr:Psychologie de la santé au travail.It is cross-linked with the English OHP page. I hope my starting the French OHP page can precipitate more OHP pages in a variety of languages. I would like to Wikipedeans who are more fluent in French than I am to elaborate the French OHP entry.

More efforts

edit

In July 2008 I turned my attention to the entry devoted to theCity College of New York,including work on the entry called theList of City College of New York people.

It wasn't until September 2008 that I began to work more productively on developing the OHP entry. Over time, I started a total of 39 English-language Wikipedia entries and one French-language entry. I started and elaborated the entry onoccupational health psychology.In January and February 2009, I began to create entries for OHP-related journals includingWork & Stress(the original and the redirect), theJournal of Occupational Health Psychology,theJournal of Organizational Behavior,theJournal of Health and Social Behavior,theScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health(the original and the redirect), theJournal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology,Organizational Research Methods,Occupational Medicine,theEuropean Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology,Psychosomatic Medicine(journal), theJournal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine,andProfessional Psychology: Research and Practice.I also initiated Wikipedia entries for two OHP-related organizations, theSociety for Occupational Health Psychologyand theEuropean Academy of Occupational Health Psychology.In September 2011, I began Wikipedia entries for two individuals,Isidor CheinandMaurice M. Rapport.In April 2012, I created an entry forIrving Millman.

Other entries I created includeHealth Psychology(journal),natural science (psychology)(the original and the redirect), andbasic science (psychology).On June 2, 2013, I began the entry for theSociety for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

I also edited and wrote for the Wikipedia entry coveringSamuel J. Tilden High School(mostly 2010, with some in 2012, 2014, and 2017) in Brooklyn, NY. I am a graduate of Tilden High School. Finally--and this was more for fun--, I got caught up with a British TV show calledSpooks;the show is about agents of the British intelligence service MI-5. I edited different entries devoted to several episodes and helped summarize episodes.

Other efforts include work on the entries onstudy design(mostly around 2008),contingency table(mostly around 2010),industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology(mostly around 2016-2017), andnatural experiment(mostly around 2014 and 2016-2017). In December 2016 and January 2017, I returned to work on improving the entry on I/O psychology. In January 2017, I worked on improving theorganizational behaviorentry. It is a little better but it needs input from OB specialists. In April 2017, I worked on improving theoccupational burnoutentry. In April 2018, I worked on improving the wording of thepersonality testingentry. I have edited the entry on thePygmalion effect(beginning January 6, 2017).

In May 2009, I observed a number of problems in theschool violenceentry. I began to edit, and add to, the entry. Beginning in February 2011 and throughout much of the year, I added to theconcept inventoryentry.

In February and March 2012, I worked on improving the entry onHenry Ford.I had done some reading on Ford and Fordism, and became interested in the entry.

On April 1, 2014, I began to work on improving the writing in theorganizational behaviorentry. On April 14, 2014, I began to contribute to the entry onElton Mayo,one of the founders of the field known as organizational behavior.

Between October 6 and October 19, 2015, I broke up the entry on school violence, which had contained sections on school violence in different countries, and created separate Wikipedia entries for each country. These entries include school violence inAustralia,Belgium,Bulgaria,France,Japan,Poland,South Africa,the United Kingdom,andthe United States.

In March and April 2016, I edited a good deal of theRevised NEO Personality Inventoryentry. In December 2016, I edited the entry onMining in Cornwall and Devon.

In June 2019, I again worked on improving the entry onoccupational burnout.

In December 2019, I worked on theoccupational stressentry.

Also in December 2019, I worked on the entryfluid and crystallized intelligence,but not nearly as much as I worked on occupational stress. Fewer than 15 edits ongf-gc.In late April and in May 2020, I made about 65 edits of this entry. It needed work.

In July and August 2020, I made 70 edits of thequalitative researchentry.

In September and October 2020, I worked on thegrounded theoryentry.

In December 2020, I worked on the entry onfocus groups.

On February 22, 2021, I started to edit the entry on thetheory of planned behavior.I stopped editing the entry in April 22, 2021.

In May and June 2021, I edited thepsychologyentry.

From October 11 to October 16, 2021, I edited the entry on theMexican Inquisition.

From September 14 to September 19, 2023, I created a table in thePsychological testingentry. The table enumerated a number of well-known psychological symptom scales. To my regret, a link to the excellent Mental Health Assessments website created by Steven Spector[1]was deleted. In my view the editors did not understand that the website was a joint creation of Steven and his father, leading psychologist Paul Spector. I resumed editing the entry in October 2023. I found some of the writing needlessly wordy and clumsy.

On September 18-19, 2023, I extensively edited the entry devoted to thePHQ-9.

To count my edits I am going to use the following tool:http://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/pcount/

Notes for future reference

edit

Note to user WhatamIdoing. You were very helpful in the past, and I thought you could answer a question. If you visit the developmental psychology entry or outline of psychology entry you will notice that the psychology template is transcluded on the bottom of the page. When you look at the page, why isn't the template open as it is on many other psychology Wikipedia entries, for example in the abnormal psychology entry? I know that I could click the word "show", and the full template will appear. However, in the abnormal psychology entry, the psychology template is visible, and the button reads "hide". Thanks. Iss246 (talk) 01:06, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Response from WhatamIdoing who is unfailingly helpful: "Hello, Iss246! What a fascinating question. It appears that the answer is because there is only one navbox on the abnormal psych article. The default is to have it open if there is only one, but if there are two or more, then it autocollapses. I think that you can change this behavior (assuming all the usual" everyone agrees it's a good idea "issues) by typing bracket-bracketPsychology |state=uncollapsedbracket-bracket instead of just plain bracket-bracketPsychologybracket-bracket where the navbox should display.

"Thanks again for the interesting question: I learned something today!WhatamIdoingtalk02:49, 18 April 2009 (UTC) "

How to make a numbered list

To begin the game of Monopoly, the players have to:

 1. Take turns rolling the dice;
 2. High roll goes first;
 3. If there is a tie, re-roll;
 4. The player to the left of the player going first.....; and
 5. Blah blah blah.

Here is how to make a numbered list without writing numbers.

To begin the game of Monopoly, the players have to:

# Take turns rolling the dice;

# High roll goes first;

# If there is a tie, re-roll;

# The player to the left of the player going first.....; and

# Blah blah blah.

Tags to indicate a citation is needed, original research is presented, an author was omitted, dubious information

edit

OR tag.[original research?]

CN tag.[citation needed]

If the article needs a source/citation, insert this marker at the end of the sentence in question: {{cn}}

Taking this step can alert the original writer or another editor to help to locate the source/citation.

Another, perhaps better, way to indicate that a source/citation is needed is to include the date:[citation needed]

in syntax form insert the following marker in the place where it is need: {{cn|date=October 2020}}.

This is another way to show how to indicate that references are needed in a section of text:[citation needed].

{{fact|date=February 2021}}

Here is an example of how to indicate that a source is unreliable:[2][unreliable source]

<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.blah, blah, blah/definition/culture.html|title=Baloney culture|website=Baloney.com|language=en|access-date=2020-19-11}}</ref>{{Unreliable source|sure=y|reason=This article is not an accepted textbook or a peer-reviewed source.|date=November 2020}}

To ask who an author is, one can ask who?[who?]by using this syntax {{Who|October 2020}}

How to say something is dubious.

Here is an example.

Johnson and Jones found that the moon is made of green cheese.[dubiousdiscuss]

Here is the syntax. {{Dubious|date=February 2021|reason=Other sources disagree}}

How to use samp

edit

If an editor wants to show an example of syntax or computer code or anything else, he or she can use the "samp" syntax. An example of the samp syntax is as follows:

<samp>Learn how and when to remove this template message</samp>.

WP applies a faint grey to the example text to distinguish it from the main text of the entry.

Here is how the above example will look:

The html markup indicates a non-breaking space, i.e., a hard space, occurs. The markup is inserted between two items, preventing in line-break. Here is an example:

Johnson wrote "Henry V was a great play" (p. 21). The space between "p." and "21" is a hard space. A line-break cannot take place between the "p." and the "21" when comes between the "p." and the "21."
