Hello@Doc James:.I've done one more pass over the text. It's probably the best I can do without changing the actual meaning of the data presented by the original referenced secondary source. If you feel yet more is needed, it will probably be up to another editor. Also, not that it matters, but compared to a plethora of other articles I follow, to me it now has far less original source "feel" than they do.
btw, I saw that you may have used Twinkle to block my static-IP for a while? "(Your IP address has been blocked from editing. (TW))"?That would have been a bit quick, no? This certainly would have overstepped theWikipedia Policieson the blocking of any good faith editor, especially after an editor was quickly & actively working to correct an issue. I wholly support your efforts in making Wikipedia better and keeping edits within policy and am also certain you know that you, yourself, must do this within policy. As my edit was not blocked, it could have just been an "oops"? Regards –72.234.220.38(talk)09:33, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

edit

Thank you foryour contributionsto Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text fromJoseph WarrenintoList of military leaders in the American Revolutionary War.While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere,Wikipedia's licensingdoes require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in anedit summaryat the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying andlinkingto the copied page, e.g.,copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted{{copied}}template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons atWikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. —Diannaa🍁(talk)23:45, 13 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Interesting, thank you for explaining this@Diannaa:.This policy is newer or "deeper" than I've been involved with in past editing. I certainly would have added a citation to the copied paragraph, if one existed in the original one. I was unaware about using a{{copied}}template on the talk pages of the source and destination, should have added a note in the edit summary for sure.72.234.220.38(talk)01:39, 15 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you foryour contributions. It seems that you may have addedpublic domaincontent to one or more Wikipedia articles, such asOwyhee River. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipediaguideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described atWikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of anattribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. —Diannaa(talk)21:19, 15 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

If this is ashared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, considercreating an accountfor yourself orlogging in with an existing accountso that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Thanks for pointing this out@Diannaa:The text for the shorttributariessection I've been creating for this article came directly from another Wikipedia article. In this case, from theWest Little Owyhee Riverarticle. It seems I simply failed to also move over the source acknowledgement reference at the same time as it had been placed further down in that article's text. Great job catching this. It seems I also made a similar omission on the sentence added for the Little Owyhee River and now have corrected that too.Fixed.—72.234.220.38(talk)05:16, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's no problem - feel free to ask if you need anything -- you should consider making an account if you ever want to edit protected pages, shame they don't let good IPs be autoconfirmed.Ed6767(talk)01:22, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Will do. I appreciate the offer! I consider making an account every decade or so... been on-n-off Wiki editing since 2005. Well, maybe I consider more often than that as uslowly IP editorsget constant CAPTCHA challenges to make sure we're not a spamming-bot. 😟 It would be a bit tricky to autoconfirm good IPs I feel. It probably could be done withSSL type certsbut it would be confusing for many editors. It's also simpler tojust make an account! One day maybe. Having my edits anonymously scattered across 5 IPs over the years is a bit sad. Regards.░▒▓№∶72.234.220.38(talk)11:00, 6 June 2020 (UTC)▓▒░Reply

Please do not add inappropriateexternal linksto Wikipedia, as you did toDuke Decter.Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. Seethe external links guidelineandspam guidelinefor further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses thenofollowattribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. HiBinksternet,I hope you can impart some of your knowledge on me regarding this subject. Enlightened by your warning, I've just spent way too much time reading much of the Wikipedia docs oncopyrightwithin the project, cases where exceptions are granted, fair use, etc. And I'm still a bit confused. Is there a chance, even with what would seem to be proper fair use documentation, that Wikipedia could still "get in trouble" for media content in articles? I ask because I see conversations saying that more than one use of copyrighted media content, even under fair use, may not be permissible. All the discussions I saw seemed to be about images, but I'm assuming it could apply to audio in the same way.
I confess my ignorance in not knowing that for each use of non-free-to-use media file, there must be a fair use justification on the media file's page. But even now that I've done this, and feel it's correct based on both documentation and other editor's examples, I worry that it may not be enough. Do you know if there are documents or talk-pages that state what items should probably be used in one, and only one, article? As always, my wish is to improve our encyclopedia and the idea this could be an issue is something I'd like to be clear on. Thanks in advance.░▒▓№∶72.234.220.38(talk)08:37, 13 June 2020 (UTC)▓▒░Reply
