editGood day! Could you help me and provide translations for the following 100 basic word in your mother tongue. Not in the standard Hindi but in your native local variety (dialect) if you (used to) speak any (and then indicate please how you call your language /dialect and precise location like state –district – town/village). If there aresynonymsor knowndialectalvariants provide them with comments if possible. Also please indicate if you know that certain words areborrowing. You can fill in right here using eitherIPAtranscription or some other spelling you like (just describe your conventions). Thank you in advance! --Koryakov Yuri12:40, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, Aksena! (Though I was amazed to find translation not here but on my Talk page!) Actually I'm gathering 100-word lists for as many as possible Indo-Aryan languages to try to build their classification on the firm lexicostatistical basis. Now I have lists for the most standard Indo-Aryan languages but lack many minor ones especially those spoken in the North (Kumauni, Garkhwali, etc.) and also many central varieties (like Eastern Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magadhi, etc). So I've searched the en-Wiki users for their native language and asked several people to help me. So if you know someone whose mother tongue is one of the minor Indo-Aryan languages please let me know. And another thing - is it a trouble for you to spell your translation in Roman letters? Since I could of course do it myself with a Devanagari table in my hands but it takes several hours. --Koryakov Yuri21:54, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- You are very welcome! I am relatively new to Wikipedia and was therefore confused about how replies work. Thanks to you, now I am sure that messages are supposed to be kept on the same page. For minor Indo-Aryan languages, I would suggest you to go to Wikipedia pages of the regions where these languages are spoken and then contact people who have contributed extensively to those pages. For instance, you can visitVaranasipage and ask any major contributor forBhojpuritranslations. Try findingBhojpuritranslations this way. But if you fail, I also happen to knowBhojpuritranslations of some of the words in your list, thanks to my friends living in Varanasi (unfortunately not on Wikipedia). As for roman spellings, please find below the updated list. I hope you understand that, although spelled inanglocharacters, the pronunciations are very different from English words. I am familiar withIPA,however, converting so many words would be a meticulous work requiring a lot of time, which I don't have. Good luck! —Aksera23:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, Aksera! And also thanks for your advice. I'll try to follow it. Spelling is quite OK, it's quite enough for my goals. Later when I will process all Indo-Aryan lists I think I will have some questions to you about certain words or their meaning. --Koryakov Yuri16:16, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

editI have not gone through all the changes or the whole article. However, it looks nice. Thanks for the effort, Keep it up.
One suggestion ishere. You can use various templates for the inline citations (references), though that is not mandatory. You can use templates likeTemplate:Cite newsandTemplate:Cite web.A full list is available atWP:CITET.I have done two such changes. Please see.--Dwaipayan(talk)12:05, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
request for comment
editCould I borrow your opinion atTalk:Penn? There is an editing dispute over the entry for UPenn on this disambiguation page and I'd like some other folks to weigh in. I feel that listing UPenn as '[University of Pennsylvania], America's first university and a member of the Ivy League located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.' is un-encyclopedic, and instead feel the way discussed on the talk page is better as it is similar to other disambiguation pages for universities.Cornell Rockey19:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
