editWelcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is aManual of Stylethat should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did inStanton, California, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. editHello,
I understand the need for accuracy & credibility. When I edit/add to Wikipedia, how do I provide/cite a "reliable source"? I, personally, know the man for whom I was including information, so, know the information to be valid & precise. Thank You for your assistance & time.

Re: Editing
editEditing should be a simple process not complicated. To a lay, non journalist, vernacular like 'Sandbox' & the purpose, thereof, can be elusive. I find it offensive to be considered a vandal when I'm attempting to contribute pertinent information. I understand the necessity for citation but how is that done in a simpler format?Angelsings1111(talk)16:55, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello. Your recent edit toExeter, Californiaappears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a listshould havea pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia'snotabilityguideline. editThank You for your editorial concern & prowess. If you reference the Internet, Don Lasseter is a well-known & notable author plus life-long Californian. He is a personal friend of mine & I have his approval to post his information.Angelsings1111(talk)17:29, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

- Withthis edityou added "Don Lasseter, True Crime author" along with the edit summary "I added myself to Notable People". You actually added "myself" to many articles (along with "Don Lasseter, True Crime author" ). Please explain.Magnolia677(talk)18:08, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I apologize if I edited inaccurately. Not being a professional journalist, it's confusing how to properly do this procedure. With his gull knowledge & permission, I added Don to the Notable People category of several towns in California where he resided. Feel free to authenticate any/all info with him; his website is located on the Internet.Angelsings1111(talk)18:27, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

editHello Angelsings1111. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia'smandatory paid editing disclosure requirements.Paid advocacy is a category ofconflict of interest(COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies onneutral point of viewand whatWikipedia is not,and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin toblack-hat SEO.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on thetalk pageof the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through thearticles for creationprocess, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you arerequiredby theWikimedia Terms of Useto disclose your employer, client and affiliation.You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page atUser:Angelsings1111.The template{{Paid}}can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form:{{paid|user=Angelsings1111|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
.If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case,do not edit furtheruntil you answer this message. You have added "Don Lasseter, noted True Crime author" to a number of articles, stating in your edit summary that you are in fact, Don Lasseter (noted true crime author). Please note that this is a conflict of interest, and moreover, a series of editors have removed nearly every one of your edits over the past two years. Thank you for your cooperation.Magnolia677(talk)17:59, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I have absolutely NO "financial stake" in Don Lasseter, whatsoever. We are merely long-time friends. Actually, he is a rather private person but I wanted him to receive due credit for having been born in & living his entire 84 years of life in California.
I apologize if I did not use the correct format for editing/adding to to a page.Angelsings1111(talk)18:11, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Don Lasseter
editPlease stop adding your friend, Don Lasseter, to the notable people section of various articles. You have been cautioned about your conflict of interest before. Thank you.Magnolia677(talk)18:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Magnolia677,
- I appreciate your input but do not understand why adding factual information that is publicly available on various Internet sites is considered a "conflict of interest". Please explain. Thank You.Angelsings1111(talk)18:11, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- The conflict of interest is because of your relationship with Lasseter, regardless of the source for the information is. —C.Fred(talk)18:17, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- I just remembered thathereyou said that you, are in fact, Don Lasseter. Don, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you don't meet Wikipedia's notability standards (WP:AUTHOR,WP:BASICandWP:ANYBIO). I even went looking on the internet for some secondary sources to support notability, but nothing. All this rejection from Wikipedia cannot be good for the self-esteem, which is crucial for a good frame of mind and for excellent writing. You might want to give it a rest until more secondary sources support your notability (after a block-buster novel??) Just a suggestion. Cheers.Magnolia677(talk)18:21, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank You. I am, still, unclear. Then, how does one edit/add information? If I were Mr. Lasseter, himself, a relative or enemy, would that be acceptable?Angelsings1111(talk)18:22, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- No, no, and absolutely no. Conflict of interest in all those cases.
- Because of the COI, you may request and edit via the talk page of the article in question. However, you would have to cite independentreliable sourcesto support the claims. The failing point would be that, since there is no article on Lasseter—because he does not meetWikipedia's notability standards for biographies—he may not be added to a list of notable people from a location. —C.Fred(talk)18:24, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Magnolia677, What in the World are you talking about? There seems to be miscommunication between us. I'm a long time friend of Don Lasseter's & know the facts. Wouldn't Wikipedia agree that having over 20 books & 50 magazine articles published, TV & other interviews, public-speaking engagements, etc. are notable? All documentation IS readily available online.Angelsings1111(talk)18:35, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- The edit Magnolia677 linked to includes the edit summary "I added myself as a Notable Person." That's where their concern comes from—that youareLasseter—since you held yourself out as him in that edit summary.
- As for whether those achievement meet the notability threshold...no, not necessarily. The books might, but we'd need more information about coverage of them. You can find more guidelines atWP:NAUTHOR.—C.Fred(talk)18:51, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank You, C. Fred, I will check into your suggestion as to proper editing format in order to get it correct & acceptable to Wikipedia standards. However, I want to clarify that I am a longtime friend of Don Lasseter, not him. Obviously, I'm not a professional journalist & may have inadvertently misinterpreted how I represented myself at that instance.
Angelsings1111(talk)19:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Magnolia677, So, YOU said, Don Lasseter, well-published author (over 20 books & 50 magazine articles), respected WWII Historian, numerous TV interviews with known journalists & a variety of public-speaking engagements, U.S. Army Veteran & Native Californian, does not meet Wikipedia's Notable Person standards/criterion. I beg to differ & suggest you reconsider.
One of his influential friends & the subject of one of his books was Orange County's famous Superior Court Judge Don C. known as "The Hanging Judge" who presided over numerous high profile California trials.
He, also, associated with famous Artist Felix de Weldon who sculpted the World famous, Joe Rosenthal's iconic February 25th 1945 photo of 6 U.S. Marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima during World War II. Don sat beside De Weldon at a commemorative dinner held decades ago at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base Oceanside, CA. I have a photo of that event but do not know how to attach it here.
My point is, Don Lasseter far surpassed any standards of notoriety that Wikipedia or YOU hold.
