Vidhu Prathap(born 1 September 1980) is an Indian playback singer. He has sung many songs in over 600 films inMalayalam,Tamil,KannadaandTelugulanguages.

editVidhu Prathap was born in 1980 in Kaithamukku inThiruvananthapuram,Kerala,as the son of Prathapan and Laila. He received his early education fromHoly Angel's Convent Thiruvananthapuramand then completed his schooling atChrist Nagar School, Thiruvananthapuram.[citation needed]Vidhu was the college union Arts Club Secretary inMar Ivanios college,Thiruvananthapuram,where he graduated. In 1997–98, at the age of 17, he won the 'Voice of the Year Award' in a music competition conducted by the television channelAsianet.[citation needed]
Playback singing
editHe first sang in a movie calledPaadamudra,when he was in class IV. But his real break was in 1999 in a movieDevadasi.
He performedShukriya ShukriyainNiram(1999). He also performed for the movieSayahnam,directed byR. Sarath,which won Vidhu theKerala State Film Award for Best Singerin 2000 for the songKaalame Kaikolluka Nee.[1]His rendition ofMohan Sithara'sSukhamani Nilaavufrom the movieNammalwon him theAsianet Best Male playback singeraward in 2002. He trained with the music directorG. Devarajanfor four years.[2]He has also trained under composerPerumbavoor G. Raveendranath.[3]
Ilaiyaraajaintroduced him in Tamil in the movieSolla Marandha Kadhai(2002). He has worked with composers G.Devarajan Master, Illayaraja, Keeravani, Raveendran Master, Vidyasagar, Ousepachan, Mohan Sithara, Sharreth, M Jayachandran and Alex Paul during his career. He has sung in multiple languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
Other works
editHe also tried his hands at acting for a time. He starred in a serial directed by the yester-years musician-lyricist-directorSreekumaran Thampi.It is called 'Paattukalude Paattu', and the story revolves around a struggling but upcoming stage singer.[5] He has hosted shows likeIdea Star Singer 2006andSurya Challenge.[6]He has judgedTop SingeronFlowers TVand was also a judge ofSuper 4 (Indian TV series)onMazhavil Manorama.[7]
Currently he is a judge of Star singer season 9.
Personal life
editHe married Deepthi Prasad,[8]a TV anchor and a professional classical dancer on 20 August 2008 in Thiruvananthapuram.[9]
