At their northern end, the hills drop steeply down to the RiverRhône.TheVuache Tunnel,carrying the A40 Geneva toLyonmotorway, cuts through the hills.
Theoakwoodlands along the northwest edge of the Vuache support very high densities ofwestern Bonelli's warblers,andEurasian eagle owlnest on the cliffs here.
