Career
editFollowing a successful youth career inLuton,Hawkes received offers from otherLeagueclubs before signing for his local sideLuton Townin 1899. Playing alongsideRobert Hawkes(no relation) andFred Whitein the Luton half-back line, Hawkes became one of the club's most consistent performers up until the outbreak ofWorld War I.On his return from the conflict, he made 14 appearances during the1919–20season to complete a career that had lasted for over twenty years.[1]
