Joel Rudolf Zwick(born January 11, 1942)[1]is an Americanfilm director,television director,andtheater director.[2]He worked on the television seriesPerfect Strangers,Full House,andFamily Matters,and directed the filmsMy Big Fat Greek Wedding,Second Sight,andFat Albert.[3]

Biography

Zwick was born inBrooklyn,New Yorkto aJewishfamily. His father was acantorfrom anOrthodoxbackground, and Zwick had hisbar mitzvahat an Orthodox synagogue.[2]

He graduated fromJames Madison High Schoolin 1958.[4]Zwick then went toBrooklyn College('62),[5]where he taught in the School of Film.[citation needed]

Zwick has directed 21television pilots,all of which have continued on to successful runs as weeklyseries.[6]

He is married to Dr. Candice Zwick, a psychologist. They have three daughters, Hillary, Jodi and Lara, and one son, Jamie. Despite a popular misconception, he is not related to fellow filmmakerEdward Zwick.

Zwick was active in theOff-Off-Broadwaymovement atLa MaMa Experimental Theatre Club,which was founded byEllen Stewartin 1961. He worked with the La MaMa Plexus company at theEast Villagetheater and on tour both domestically[7]and internationally.[8]He performed with La MaMa Plexus in Jan Quackenbush'sInside Outin 1968.[9]He also directed the following productions at La MaMa:
