Susan Elisabeth Kellyis a British medievalist.

Early life and education

Kelly attendedClare College, Cambridge,from 1979 to 1985,[1]graduating with aBachelor of Artsdegree in 1982 and aDoctor of Philosophydegree in 1987.[2]Her doctorate was awarded for herthesis"The Pre-Conquest History and Archive ofSt Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury".[3]

Career

From 1985 to 1988, Kelly was a Rank FoundationResearch FellowatSt Catherine's College, Oxford.She was then aBritish AcademyResearch Fellow at St Catherine's from 1988 to 1991. From 1991 to 1996, she was a researcher in theDepartment of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celticat theUniversity of Cambridge,before working as a research fellow at theUniversity of Birminghamfrom 1996 to 1997 and from 1998 to 2012.[1]In the meantime, she was principal editor (from 1998 to 2011) of the British Academy'sAnglo-Saxon Chartersseries; she has authored or co-authored fourteen volumes of charters for the series.[4]She has been a Marc Fitch Senior Research Fellow at theUniversity of East Angliasince 2015.[1][4]In 2016, she received thePresident's Medalfrom theBritish Academy,the United Kingdom'snational academyfor the humanities and social sciences; awarded to up to three people annually, the medal recognises "outstanding service to the cause of the humanities and social sciences".[5]
