Vinita Chandra Nair[1]is an American television journalist and co-founder of a social media branding company. Nair is the former co-host ofCBS This Morning SaturdayalongsideAnthony Mason.She was replaced byAlex Wagner,starting with the episode that aired on November 19, 2016. She has also workedfreelanceforNBC News.

Early life and education

Nair is of Indian descent and was born inEvanston,Illinois,and raised inColleyville,Texas,going to school inFort Worth.She graduated with a degree in journalism from theMedill School of Journalism,ofNorthwestern University.[citation needed]

Career

Nair wrote forToday's Chicago Womanmagazine and was a reporter for Talk Radio News inWashington D.C.prior to pursuing television journalism. She began her career in television news atWGEM-TV,theNBCaffiliate inQuincy,Illinois,as a general assignment reporter. She also worked forWYCC-TV,Chicago's PBS station, and Illinois'public, educational, and government access(PEG)cable TVstation, Evanston Community Cable Channel.

Next, Nair became an anchor and reporter forKOLN/KGIN-TVinLincoln,Nebraska,where she anchored daily morning and afternoon newscasts. Then, she was lead evening reporter and anchor atKWGN-TV,theCWaffiliate inDenver.She started at the station in July 2004 and reported on a wide range of topics, including theJon Benet Ramseymurder investigation and the school shootings atBailey,Colorado.

Nair joinedABC Newsas an anchor/correspondent for ABCNews Nowin December 2007. In that role, she anchored live coverage and news briefs for ABC's digital network.[2]Nair was co-anchor ofWorld News NowandAmerica This MorningonABC,from September 17, 2008, until February 18, 2011.[3]She was partnered withJeremy Hubbardand laterRob Nelsonon both shows. On Thursday, February 17, 2011, Nair announced that Friday, February 18, would be her last night on air atWorld News Now.It would also be her last day with ABC News. FormerKDVRDenver anchor Peggy Bunker was her immediate successor. The February 18 edition ofWorld News Nowpaid tribute to Nair in each of its three segments, including appearances from current and former colleagues including Jeremy Hubbard. She treated the crew to a hot breakfast on her last day.[citation needed]Also, a brief send-off by Nelson to Nair was given at the conclusion ofAmerica This Morning.

In 2011, Nair worked atMSNBCin New York, as a newsreader onMartin Bashirand anchoring the early morning news programsEarly Todayon NBC andFirst LookonMSNBC.

Vinita was then the former co-anchor ofCBS This Morning Saturdayalongside Anthony Mason. She was also a correspondent for CBS Newspath[4]and was seen on the network as a substitute anchor forUp to the Minute.An article published inVarietystated that Nair left CBS.[5]On October 12 and 13, 2017, Nair guest anchored onDallas-based ABC affiliateWFAAonNews 8 DaybreakalongsideWorld News NowandAmerica This MorningalumRon Corning.[citation needed]
