Woltz began his career in 2008, working on the independent circuit as Adam Page. In 2011, he began to appear inRing of Honor(ROH) where he stayed for seven years. In 2016, Page joined the villainous stableBullet Club,having a big push in the promotion. After he joined, he changed his gimmick to "Hangman" Adam Page, acowboy-inspired character. Early life

Stephen Woltz was born in the small community of Aaron's Creek inHalifax County,Virginia.[10][11]He graduated fromHalifax County High Schoolin 2009.[9]His uncle is George Woltz, who co-created the Virginia tourist slogan "Virginia is for Lovers."[12]

Professional wrestling career

Independent circuit (2008–2018)

Woltz made hisprofessional wrestlingdebut in 2008[13]under thering nameAdam Page. Page made his ROH debut on January 14, 2011, atROH Champions vs. All Starsin thedark match.[19]His first televised match came in a loss against Michael Bennett. In 2013, Page participated in theROH Top Prospect Tournament,yet he was defeated on January 5 bySilas Young.[20]Page made his pay-per-view debut at ROH's11th Anniversary Showwhere he participated in a Six Man Mayhem Match won by ACH.[21]AtManhattan Mayhem,Page was defeated by Young in a singles match.[22]AtDeath Before Dishonor XI,Page defeated RD Evans.[23]AtGlory by Honor XII,Page was defeated byJimmy Jacobs.[24]AtGolden Dream,Page had his first title match, yet he was defeated by theROH World Television ChampionMatt Taven.[25]AtFinal Battle 2013,Page was defeated byMatt Hardy.[26]

In 2014, Page feuded withThe Decade,a stable formed by ROH veterans. At ROH's12th Anniversary Show,The Decade (B. J. Whitmer,Jimmy Jacobs, andRoderick Strong) defeated Page,Cedric Alexander,andMark Briscoe.[27]On March 7, Page joined The Decade, as the first of the group's recruits, or "young boys". AtSupercard of Honor VIII,Page, Jacobs, and Whitmer defeated Andrew Everett and Adrenaline Rush (A. C. H.and TaDarious Thomas).[28]In October 2014, Page became a full-fledged member of The Decade, establishing himself as aheelin the process, and debuting slick locks & a black vest at Final Battle 2014 against Roderick Strong.[2]

After Jacobs left the stable andColby Corinojoined, Page started a feud with ACH. AtBest in the World,The Decade (Whitmer and Page) defeated ACH andMatt Sydalwhen Page pinned Sydal after aRite of Passage.[29]AtDeath Before Dishonor XIII,Page defeated ACH; however, Page subsequently left The Decade and feuded with BJ Whitmer, turningfacein the process. Page faced Whitmer atROH 14th Anniversary Show,yet he was defeated.

On May 9, 2016, during the first night of theWar of the Worldstour, Page became avillainonce again when he joinedBullet Clubby turning onColt Cabana,The Briscoes,andThe Motor City Machine Gunsduring a ten-man tag team main event. Page hangedChris Sabinwith ahangman's noosethat gave Page his "Hangman" nickname.[30]AtDeath Before Dishonor XIVPage defeated Jay Briscoe. Atthe New Beginning in Sapporo,afterJay Whitedefeated Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Championship, Page went to challenge White for the title, but was interrupted by Omega, after which Cody attacked Omega.[52]Page challenged White for theIWGP United States Heavyweight ChampionshipatStrong Style Evolved,but was defeated.[53]ThroughoutBullet Club's Civil War,Page was the only member fully supporting Cody and his coup to become leader.[54]Page's firstmain eventsingles match in NJPW came against Kenny Omega atWrestling Dontaku 2018where he lost to Omega. In April 2018, Page made his debut forPro Wrestling Guerrilla(PWG) at the first night of All-Star Weekend 14. Page fought then PWG World Champion,Keith Leein a losing effort.[61]

In January 2019, Page signed with upstart promotionAll Elite Wrestling(AEW), as the 3rd ever signing, along with the rest of the Elite.[5]Page was scheduled to facePacat AEW's inaugural eventDouble or Nothingafter a confrontation between the two at an AEW press conference,[62]but the match was later cancelled due to "creative differences".[63][64]Instead, Page was the surprise final entrant in theCasino Battle Royaleat Double or Nothing, where he last eliminatedMJFto win and get anAEW World Championshipopportunity.[65]However, atAll Outon August 31, Page was defeated byChris Jerichoin a match to crown the inaugural AEW World Champion.[66]On the premiere episode ofDynamiteon October 2, Page was defeated by a returning Pac,[67]but was able to emerge victorious over him in a rematch atFull Gearon November 9.[68]Following this, Page began teaming alongside Kenny Omega, fellow member of the Elite.[69]Also in November 2019, Page competed in the2019 Dynamite Diamond Ring tournamentbut was eliminated in the finals by MJF on theThanksgiving Evespecial episodeon November 27. Omega and Page would later defeatSoCal Uncensored(Frankie KazarianandScorpio Sky) on the January 22, 2020, episode ofDynamiteto win theAEW World Tag Team Championship,marking the first ever title change in AEW history.[70]AtRevolutionon February 29, Page and Omega retained their title against The Young Bucks in a highly acclaimed match.[71]

After this, the Elite began a feud withThe Inner Circle(Chris Jericho,Jake Hager,Sammy Guevara,Santana and Ortiz),[72][73]leading to the Elite recruiting the debutingMatt Hardyto oppose the group.[74]AtDouble or Nothingon May 23, the Elite and Hardy defeated the Inner Circle in aStadium Stampede match.[75]After a lengthy period of tension within the group, Page was removed from the Elite by the Young Bucks on the August 27 episode ofDynamite,after he had stopped them from winning their match.[76]On September 5 atAll Out,Page and Omega lost the tag team championship toFTR(Cash WheelerandDax Harwood), ending their record-setting reign at 228 days.[77]After losing the championship, Page and Omega separated as a team.[78]

In September, Page was inserted into a tournament to determine the next challenger for the AEW World Championship.[79]Page defeatedColt Cabanain the first round andWardlowin the semi-finals to move on to the tournament finals against Omega,[80][81]who defeated him at theFull Gearpay-per-view on November 7 to become number one contender.[82]

AEW World Champion (2021–2022)

Going into 2021, Page began a storyline withThe Dark Order(Evil Uno,Stu Grayson,Alex Reynolds and John Silver) where they tried to recruit him into their group.[83][84]However, on the January 20, 2021, episode ofDynamite,Page rebuffed their offer and stated he would not join them, as he felt that he did not work well in groups.[85]At theRevolutionevent on March 7, Page defeated Matt Hardy; the Dark Order subsequently came down to the ring to celebrate with him.[86]AtDouble or Nothingon May 30, Page defeatedBrian Cage.[87]

AtRoad Rager,Page renewed his rivalry with his former allies Kenny Omega, who now held the AEW World Championship, and the Young Bucks, who were the AEW World Tag Team Champions.[88]AtFight for the Fallen,Page teamed with the Dark Order to face Omega, the Young Bucks andthe Good Brothers(Doc GallowsandKarl Anderson) in a10-man tag team elimination match,where if Page and the Dark Order won, they would receive matches for the world and tag team championships, respectively.[89]Page and the Dark Order were defeated, with Page being the last man eliminated on his team.[90]At theHomecomingevent on August 4, Omega and all his allies beat Page down,[91]and Page would takepaternity leavefor the birth of his first child, a son.[92]Page made his return atDynamite's Second Anniversary on October 6 as the surprise entrant in the seven-manCasino Ladder match.He won the match and secured himself a future shot for the AEW World Championship.[93]

On November 13 atFull Gear,Page defeated Omega to win the world championship in a highly acclaimed matchthat received a 512star ratingfrom sports journalistDave Meltzer,with Meltzer describing the match as a "classic".[94][95]Page made his first defense of the championship againstBryan Danielsonat theWinter Is Comingevent on December 15, which ended in a 60-minute time limit draw; Page retained the championship, and received his second consecutive 5-star match from Meltzer.[96]The two met in a rematch on the January 5, 2022, episode ofDynamite,which Page won.[97]On the February 9 episode ofDynamite,Page successfully defended his title againstLance Archerin aTexas Deathmatch,and was afterwards confronted byAdam Cole,who indicated his intentions to challenge for the championship.[98]On March 6, Page would defeat Cole atRevolution,despite interference fromreDRagon(Bobby FishandKyle O'Reilly).[99] Page would defeat Cole once again in a Texas Deathmatch during an episode ofRampage.Shortly before the April 27 episode ofDynamite,Page tested positive forCOVID-19,and was unable to confrontCM Punk,who was announced as his opponent forDouble or Nothing.[100]At the event, Page lost the championship to Punk, thus ending his reign at 197 days.[101]

Rejoining the Elite (2022–2023)

Page wrestled his first match since losing the AEW World Championship on the June 8 episode ofDynamite,defeatingNJPW'sDavid Finlay.[102]After the match, Page would call outKazuchika Okada,signalling his intentions to challenge for theIWGP World Heavyweight ChampionshipatAEW×NJPW: Forbidden Door.Okada, however, would lose the championship toJay WhiteatDominion 6.12 in Osaka-jo Hall,who would go on to insult Page in the post-match press conference.[103]On the June 22 episodeDynamite,Page defeatedSilas Young,and was attacked by Adam Cole and Jay White after the match, only to be saved by a debuting Okada.[104]Afour-way matchfor the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship between Page, Cole, White and Okada was made official for Forbidden Door[105]where Page was unsuccessful after White pinned Cole to retain the title.[106]

Page would then participate in theRoyal Rampageas the #3 entrant atBlood and Guts,for a future AEW World Championship title shot. However, he was eliminated by the eventual winnerBrody King.In August, Page joined forces with Dark Order members Alex Reynolds and John Silver to participate in a tournament for the newAEW World Trios Championship.They defeatedBest Friends(Chuck Taylor,Orange CassidyandTrent Beretta) to advance to the final atAll Outagainst The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks), which Page and Dark Order lost. On the September 7 episode ofDynamite,Page participated in the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions for the vacant AEW World Championship, losing to Bryan Danielson in the opening round.

AtGrand Slam,Page participated in the Golden Ticket battle royal for a future AEW World Championship match, which he won by last eliminatingRush.On the October 18 episode ofDynamite: Title Tuesday,Page received the title shot againstJon Moxley.During the match, Page suffered alegitimateinjury after landing off a lariat, causing the referee to stop the match.[107][108][109]Page returned from injury on the November 30 edition ofDynamite,confronting Moxley before a brawl broke out between the two. After the two men were separated by security, the fight continued backstage.[110]This led to a rematch between Page and Moxley on the January 11, 2023, episode ofDynamite,which Page won by cleanly pinning Moxley, handing him his first loss in singles competition onDynamitein seventeen months. This led to a rubber Texas Deathmatch atRevolution,which Page won by making Moxley submit, thus becoming the first wrestler in AEW to make Moxley tap out.[111]On the May 18 episode ofDynamite,Page rejoined The Elite to brawl with theBlackpool Combat Club(Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson,Wheeler YutaandClaudio Castagnoli), Page announced that the two groups will collide in an Anarchy in the Arena atDouble or Nothing.[112]At the event on May 28, Page, Omega and The Young Bucks were defeated by BCC after assistance byDon CallisandKonosuke Takeshita,who attacked Omega during the final moments of the match.[113]At theForbidden Doorevent on June 25, Page and The Young Bucks teamed withEddie KingstonandTomohiro Ishiito take on Moxley, Yuta, Castagnoli, Takeshita andShota Uminoin a ten-man tag team match, which they won.[114]On July 19 onDynamite: Blood & Guts,the Elite, along withKota Ibushi,defeated the Blackpool Combat Club,Konosuke Takeshita,andPacin aBlood & Guts match.[115]On August 2, 2023, it was announced that Page, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks had all signed multi-year contract extensions with AEW.[116]

Various feuds (2023–present)

In theAll Outpre-show, Page won the over-budget charity battle royale.[117]On the September 6 edition ofDynamite,Page began a feud withSwerve Strickland,who confronted him before getting ambushed byMogul EmbassymemberBrian Cage.[118]The following week, Page defeated Cage. Following Page's victory, he was challenged by Strickland to a match atWrestleDreamon October 1. Before Page could respond, he was attacked by Cage, until, he was saved by The Young Bucks.[119]The feud intensified atRampage: Grand Slam,where Page and The Young Bucks defeated Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage,Bishop KaunandToa Liona) to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship for a second time.[120]On the September 27 edition ofDynamite,Page and Strickland met in the ring for a contract signing to confirm their match at WrestleDream. The two insulted one another, leading to Page stabbing Strickland's hand with a pen.[121]At WrestleDream in October 2023, Page was defeated bySwerve Strickland.[122]On November 1 edition ofDynamite,Page and The Young Bucks lost the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship to the Mogul Embassy, ending their reign at 42 days.[123]On November 18 atFull Gear,Page was defeated by Strickland in aTexas Death match.[124]The match received a5 star ratingfromDave Meltzer,making it the fifth five star match in Page's career,[125]but received backlash and some mainstream media attention for a moment in which Page cut open Strickland's forehead and drank his blood.[126][127][128][129]On December 13 atWinter Is Coming,Page defeatedRoderick Strong.Later in the show, Page was attacked by the Devil and company in the parking garage.[130]

On February 7, 2024, episode ofDynamite,Page wrestled Swerve Strickland with the winner facingSamoa Joefor the AEW World Championship atRevolution.However, their match went to a 30-minute time limit draw; as a result, both men were declared number one contenders with Joe in turn scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship against both in a three-way match,[131]which was won by Joe.[132]On the March 6 episode ofDynamite,Page was (kayfabe) suspended from The Elite by The Young Bucks for assaulting two referees in his match at Revolution.[133]On the June 29 episode ofAEW Collision,avignettewas shown teasing Page's return.[134]On the July 3 episode ofDynamite,Page returned as the wild card entrant in theOwen Hart Cup,defeatingJeff Jarrettin the first round,[135]Jay Whitein the second round, but lost to Bryan Danielson in the finals. Around this time, Page began to show morevillainoustraits, coming off as desperate and aggressive. During the lead-up toBlood & Guts,Page was asked to join The Elite, but he refused. However, on the July 10 episode ofDynamite,Page confronted The Elite and reluctantly agreed to be their fifth member as Strickland joined Team AEW.[136]At Blood & Guts on July 24, Page and the rest of The Elite were defeated by Team AEW (Swerve Strickland,Mark Briscoe,Darby Allin,Max Caster,andAnthony Bowens).[137]

AtAll Inon August 25, Page was unsuccessful at winning the Casino Gauntlet match, which was won byChristian Cage.Later that night, Page tried to interfere in the AEW World Championship match between Strickland and Danielson but was held back by security.[138]On the August 28 episode ofDynamite,Page was confronted by Strickland and challenged him to asteel cage matchatAll Outon September 7, which was later made official.[139]On the September 4 episode ofDynamite,a contract signing was set for the cage match between Page and Strickland. While Strickland arrived to sign the contract, Page didn't show up as he was at Strickland's childhood house, which Strickland had just recently purchased. Page proceeded to burn down the house as Strickland watched in horror. This forced AEW president Tony Khan to not sanction their steel cage match at All Out, turning the match into alights outsteel cage match[140]On September 7 at All Out, Page defeated Strickland ending their year-long feud.[141]After defeating Strickland, Page began a feud withJay White,[142]facing him atWrestleDreamon October 12 and atFull Gearon November 23, but was defeated in both matches.[143][144]On December 28 atWorlds End,Page failed to capture the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley in afour-way match,also involving White and Orange Cassidy.[145]

On the February 12, 2025 episode ofDynamite,Page came to the aid ofDustin Rhodesfrom an attack by MJF, turning face in the process.[146]

Personal life

Woltz has been married to his wife Amanda since 2016. They have a son, born in 2021.[147]On the August 28, 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite, it was revealed that they had a second child.[148]

He is a graduate ofVirginia Tech,where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications in two years.[149][150]Woltz was a full-time high school teacher for five years, teaching journalism and graphic design while wrestling at the same time.[151][54]He stepped away from teaching when he became a full-time wrestler withNew Japan Pro-Wrestlingin May 2016.[152]
