History
editThe block was announced on March 8, 2018, and premiered on October 18 of the same year with its first anime line-up beingIngress: The Animation.According to Fuji TV producer Mori Akitoshi, the programming block is kind of a brother to the already establishednoitaminAblock, due to it being a unique vision of an anime block, much like itself. In the announcement, Akitoshi mentioned that the block was made due to the diversification of viewing media with anime being shared around the world via streaming services, which is why the block is based on the concept of spreading anime culture overseas with high-quality animation for the world.[1][2][3]
Crunchyroll Co-productions
editOn September 23, 2021,Crunchyroll,Slow Curve, and Fuji TV announced the beginning of a partnership toco-producenew anime projects, with the first set to launch in April 2022. The titles will air in Japan exclusively on +Ultra, and on Crunchyroll worldwide outside of Asia.[4]Among the first projects announced werePolygon Pictures's produced shows ofGorō Taniguchi'sEstab-Life,as well asTsutomu Nihei'sKaina of the Great Snow Sea,[5]with the Crunchyroll and Fuji TV co-producedMuv-Luv Alternativeannounced ahead of the partnership.[6]
