Anatoly Vaisser(born 5 March 1949) is a Soviet-born Frenchchessplayer. Awarded the titleGrandmasterby FIDE in 1985, he is four-time world seniors' champion.

Biography and career

Vaisser was born inAlmaty,Kazakhstan(then Soviet Union). In 1982 he won theRussian Chess Championship.[1]FIDE awarded him the titles ofInternational Master(IM) in 1982 and Grandmaster (GM) in 1985.

Vaisser shared first place withEvgeny Sveshnikovat the Chigorin Memorial inSochiin 1983,[2]tied for 2nd–3rd withViswanathan Anand,behindIstván Csom,atNew Delhiin 1987, and took second, behindVladimir Malaniuk,atBudapestin 1989. He tied for first in theCappelle-la-Grande Opentwice: in 1987 withAnthony KostenandJonny Hector,and in 1991 withMatthew Sadler.

Since 1991, Vaisser hasrepresentedFrance. He won theFrench championshipatNarbonne1997,[1]and was twice runner-up (1996 and 2001).[3]

Vaisser has won theWorld Senior Chess Championshipin 2010, 2013,[4]and, since the seniors' championships has been split into two divisions, also in 2014 and 2016 in the 65+ age category.[5][6][7]
