Andrei Lazukin

Andrei Olegovich Lazukin(Russian:Андрей Олегович Лазукин,born 19 November 1997) is a retired Russianfigure skater.He is the 2015Bavarian Openchampion, 2017Triglav Trophysilver medalist, and2018 CS Lombardia Trophybronze medalist. Earlier in his career, he won gold at the 2014ISU Junior Grand Prix in Germany.

Andrei Olegovich Lazukin was born on 19 November 1997 inTolyatti,Russia.[1][2]He dated fellow figure skaterElizaveta Tuktamysheva.

Career

Early career

Lazukin began learning to skate in 2001.[3]Making hisISU Junior Grand Prix(JGP) debut, he placed seventh inLinz,Austria, in September 2012. During the2013 JGP series,he was sent toMexico City,where he finished fifth.

In early October 2014, Lazukin won gold at the2014 JGPevent inDresden,Germany.[4]In November, he placed fifth at the2014 CS Volvo Open Cup,anISU Challenger Seriesevent and his first senior international. He won gold at theBavarian Openin February 2015.

Lazukin missed part of the 2015–2016 season due to a back injury.[5]He finished fourth at the2017 Russian ChampionshipsinChelyabinskand took the silver medal at theTriglav Trophyin April 2017.

2017–2018 season

Lazukin started his season by competing in twoISU Challenger Seriesevents. In mid-September he placed eighth at the2017 CS Lombardia Trophyand in early October he finished eighth again in2017 CS Finlandia Trophy.Two weeks later he made hisGrand Prixdebut at the2017 Rostelecom Cupwhere he placed tenth. In December he skated his third Challenger event of the season at the2017 CS Golden Spin of Zagrebwhere he placed sixth. In late December he finished seventh at the2018 Russian Championships.

2018–2019 season

In September Lazukin won the bronze medal at the2018 CS Lombardia Trophywith a personal best score of 243.45 points. This medal was his firstISU Challenger Seriesmedal. In early November he placed sixth at the2018 Grand Prix of Helsinki.Two weeks later he finished seventh at the2018 Rostelecom Cup.At the2019 Russian Championships,he debuted a new free skate toPyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky'sRomeo and Juliet,finishing in fourth place overall.[6]

In February 2019, he took silver at the2019 Dragon TrophyinLjubljana,Slovenia.At the2019 Russian Cup Finalhe won gold, placing first in the short program and six in the free. In March 2019 Lazukin competed at the2019 Winter Universiadeplaced third in the short program, fifth in the free program, and fifth overall.

Lazukin was assigned to the2019 World ChampionshipsinSaitama,Japan,following the withdrawal ofMaxim Kovtun.Lazukin placed tenth, setting a new personal best in the free skating and total score.[7][8]He concluded the season at the2019 World Team Trophyas part of the bronze medal-winning Team Russia.[9][10]

2019–2020 season

Beginning the season on theChallenger series,Lazukin placed twelfth atLombardiaand seventh at theFinlandia Trophy.

At his firstGrand Prixassignment, Lazukin was sixth in the short program after a rough landing on hisquadLutzattempt and having to put a hand down on his tripleAxel.[11]He placed last in the free skate after numerous errors, dropping to eighth place overall.[12]Lazukin was tenth at the2019 Cup of China.He then placed twelfth at the2020 Russian Championships,where he was reported to be dealing with a knee injury.[13]
