Atlantirivulusis agenusof fishes in thefamilyRivulidae.They areendemicto shallow swamps, creeks, streams and pools in theAtlantic Forestin southeasternBrazil,ranging fromRio de JaneirotoSanta Catarina.[2][3]Several of the species are highly threatened, while others survive in well-protected reserves.A. janeiroensiswas initially feared extinct, but has since been rediscovered in two reserves.[3]

Similar to closely related genera such asAnablepsoides,Cynodonichthys,LaimosemionandMelanorivulus,Atlantirivulusare non-annualkillifish.[4]

They are small fish, no more than 6.5 cm (2.6 in) intotal length.[5]Compared to many species in the family, the colors ofAtlantirivulusare relatively dull.[3]

Until 2011,Atlantirivuluswere included inRivulus,[2]and some prefer to maintain them in that genus.[6]
