In club football, Trusty played in theUSL ChampionshipforBethlehem Steeland inMajor League Soccerfor thePhiladelphia Unionand theColorado Rapidsbefore signing for Arsenal, and spent the 2022–23 seasonon loantoBirmingham Cityof theEFL Championship.On August 3, 2023, Trusty signed forSheffield United.Internationally, he represented his country at under-age levels before making his senior debut in March 2023.

Early life

Born inMedia,Pennsylvania,Trusty began playing soccer with Nether United Soccer Club inWallingford.[4]He attended and played forPenncrest High Schoolbefore joining the SockerClub youth setup of thePhiladelphia Unionin 2011.[5]

Club career

Bethlehem Steel

In 2016, Trusty signed an amateur United Soccer League contract with thePhiladelphia Unionreserve affiliateBethlehem Steel.[6]The contract with the Steel allowed Trusty to remain eligible to playcollege soccerwith theNorth Carolina Tar Heels.[6]He made his debut for the Steel on April 10, 2016, againstNew York Red Bulls II,starting in the 4–0 defeat.[7]

Trusty would go on to play 44 games for the Bethlehem Steel within two seasons.[8]

Philadelphia Union

On August 10, 2016, Trusty signed ahomegrown playerdeal with thePhiladelphia Union,electing not to join theTar Heels.[9]Despite his signing, Trusty did not make his debut for the Union until March 3, 2018, in the club's season opener against theNew England Revolution.[10]He finished his first season with the Union having played every minute of the season as the club finished sixth in theEastern Conference.[10]He also scored his first professional goal on September 15 against theMontreal Impact,a 4–1 defeat.[11]

Going into the2019 season,Trusty continued his game streak, playing in an additional seven matches before being sent off during a match against theLA Galaxyon April 13.[10][12]Following his suspension, Trusty would start 15 more matches until July 2019.

Colorado Rapids

On November 20, 2019, Trusty was traded to theColorado Rapidsin exchange for up to $750,000 in allocation money, including performance-based thresholds, as well as a percentage of a future transfer.[13]He made his debut for the club on July 17, 2020, againstSporting Kansas Cityin theMLS is Back Tournament,coming off the bench.[14]Following his debut season with the Rapids, Trusty signed a new contract on December 16, keeping him with the club through the 2023 season.[15]

Arsenal

On January 31, 2022, Trusty signed withPremier LeagueclubArsenal,although he would stay on loan with the Colorado Rapids until July 17, 2022.[16][17]He played his last game for the Rapids on July 5, returned to Arsenal, and was immediately loaned toEFL ChampionshipclubBirmingham Cityfor the2022–23 season.[18]

Loan to Birmingham City

Trusty made his competitive debut in English football on July 30, 2022, in his new club'sopening-day0–0 draw atLuton Town.[19]He scored his first two goals in England in Birmingham's 3–0 win againstBristol Cityon October 8.[20]Hisown goalcaused Birmingham's elimination from theFA Cupat the hands ofBlackburn Rovers,[21]but he redeemed himself four days later with the winning goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time of the Championship match away toSwansea City.[22]As of February 10, Trusty had played every minute of every league match throughout the season.[23]He finished the season with 44 appearances in all competitions and four goals,[24]and was voted Player of the Season by Birmingham's supporters.[25]

Sheffield United

On August 3, 2023, Trusty signed for newly promotedSheffield United.[26]He made his Premier League debut on September 16 in a 2–1 loss away toTottenham Hotspur.[27]He scored his first goal for Sheffield United on August 13, 2024 in anEFL Cuptie againstWrexham.[28]

Celtic

On August 30, 2024, Trusty signed withScottish PremiershipclubCelticon a five-year contract.[29]

International career

Trusty has represented theUnited States at the under-17 level,playing in the2015 FIFA U-17 World Cupin Chile. He started the opening match, againstNigeria,but was given ared cardnear the end of the 2–0 defeat for a poor challenge on goalscorerVictor Osimhen.[30][31]He missed the second group game through suspension, and was an unused substitute for the third, a 4–1 loss toChilethat confirmed the United States' elimination from the tournament.[32]He was a member ofTab Ramos'under-20 squadfor theFIFA U-20 World Cup,replacing the injuredMarlon Fossey.[33]He scored one goal during the tournament, the fifth in a 6–0 victory overNew Zealandon June 1.[34]

On December 20, 2018, Trusty, alongside then teammateMark McKenzie,received his first call-up to the seniorUnited Statessquad for their January 2019 camp.[35]

Trusty was added to the roster for the United States' January 2022 training camp in Phoenix.[36]

Trusty made his senior debut on March 24, 2023, starting theCONCACAF Nations League A group phasematch againstGrenada.Partnering McKenzie in central defense, Trusty played the whole game, and provided the assist forWeston McKennie's second goal of the 7–1 win.[37]
