TheBellonids(Catalan:Bel·lònides,[1]Spanish:Bellónidas,French:Bellonides[2]), sometimes called theBellonid Dynasty, were the counts descended from theGothBellówho ruled inCarcassonne,Urgell,Cerdanya,County of Conflent,Barcelona, and numerous otherHispanic and Gothic marchcounties in the 9th and 10th centuries. His most famous grandson wasWilfred the Hairy, who founded theHouse of Barcelona, rulers of theCounty of Barcelonafrom 878,[3]and since 1164 theCrown of Aragon, until the end of the reign ofMartin the Humanein 1410.
Since the early years of the 10th century all of the eastern counties of the Hispanic March and the counties ofConflent,Carcassonne,Foix, andRazèsof theGothic Marchwere ruled by Belló's descendants. This would have favored the co-ruling of some territories, and aclan-like network of mutual support, although they would have also been exposed to the risk ofendogamy.[4]
