TheBrian Kilrea Coach of the Year Awardis given out annually to the coach of the year in theCanadian Hockey League(CHL). Originally called theCHL Coach of the Year Award,the trophy was renamed in 2003 to honourBrian Kilreawhen he won his 1,000th game as the coach of theOttawa 67's.[1]Kilrea has won more games than any other coach in Canadian junior hockey history, twoMemorial Cupchampionships and was inducted into theHockey Hall of Famein 2003.[2]He was named the OHL'stop coachfive times in his 32-year coaching career, and won the CHL Coach of the Year Award once, in 1996–97.[3]

The winner is named from one of the recipients of the Coach of the Year Award in the CHL's three constituent leagues: theMatt Leyden Trophy(Ontario Hockey LeagueCoach of the Year), theRon Lapointe Trophy(Quebec Major Junior Hockey LeagueCoach of the Year), or theDunc McCallum Memorial Trophy(Western Hockey LeagueCoach of the Year).Bob Lowes,Bob BoughnerandGerard Gallantare the only coaches to capture the award twice.[4]
