Dominik Tiefenthaler(German pronunciation:[dɔmɪnɪktiːfəntaːlɐ]) (born 1971) is anAustrian-Germanactor, mainly working in American TV and films. His work includesGossip Girl,[1]The Good Wife,[2]Person of Interest,[3]Blue Bloods,[4]The Blacklist,[5]Boardwalk Empire,[6]and the dramatic filmsMaybe Tomorrow[7]andAn Act of War.[8]He has also done voice-over projects, includingGrand Theft Auto IVandWolfenstein: The New Order.[9]

Biography
editDominik Tiefenthaler was born inSwitzerland,to anAustrianfather and aGermanmother. He grew up inKreuzlingen,a small town nearZurich,with his four sisters and one brother. He enrolled in theMedical School of the University Zurich,and after receiving hisMD Degreeworked for two years in the Neurosurgical Department of the Cantonal Hospital in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He moved to New York City in 2000, studied acting withWilliam Esperand John Dapolito, and voice and speech with Shane Ann Younts.[10]In the spring of 2004, he co-founded the Incumbo Theater Company in New York City, but left the group after two years to focus on a career in film and television.[11]
Tiefenthaler is the grandson of the Austrian historian and archivist Meinrad Tiefenthaler. Once married, now divorced, he lives on theUpper East SideofManhattan.[10]
Theatre
editIn 2018, Tiefenthaler played the role of the Janitor inThe Lehman Trilogyat the Lyttelton Theatre of theRoyal National TheatreinLondon.The production starredSimon Russell Beale,Ben MilesandAdam Godleyand was directed bySam Mendes.Tiefenthaler also understudied the role of Emanuel Lehman (played by Ben Miles).[12]In August 2019, afterThe Lehman Trilogyhad moved to thePiccadilly Theatrein the LondonWest End,Tiefenthaler took over the role of Emanuel from Ben Miles and finished the last four weeks of the run alongside Simon Russell Beale and Adam Godley.[13]
Film and television
editIn 2010, Tiefenthaler portrayed Swiss detective Yan Glassey, the lead investigator of the infamous Pink Panthers, an international gang of jewelry thieves[14][failed verification],in an episode ofAmerica's Most Wanted.
After shooting the filmLenßen – Der Film,[15]for the German TV stationSat.1(primetime television premiere on January 8, 2011),[16]Tiefenthaler returned to the United States to shootGossip Girl,where he playedLucien,the royal liaison toLouis Grimaldi.[1]
In the following years, he played mostly guest-star characters, among them onCBS'sThe Good Wife( "Je Ne Sais What?" ),[2]Person of Interest( "Relevance" ),[3]Blue Bloods( "Worst Case Scenario" ),[4]andNYC 22( "Self Cleaning Oven" ),[17]NBC'sThe Blacklist( "The Good Samaritan" ),[5]abc'sZero Hour( "Chain" ) (oppositeAnthony Edwards),[18]andHBO'sBoardwalk Empire( "All In" ).[6]
In 2014, Tiefenthaler was seen in three film projects:Guillaume Canet's 1970s crime dramaBlood Ties,[19]The Projectionist(a thriller aboutPTSD), andMaybe Tomorrow,[20]for which he wonBest Supporting Actorat the"Golden Door International Film Festival".[21]
In March 2016, it was announced that Tiefenthaler was cast as Detective Walti Merian, in the new eight-part British dramaParanoid.The series was commissioned byITVand produced byStudioCanal's British production companyRed Production Company.[22][23]Netflixwill serve as a co-producer on the series, and will stream the series worldwide outside the UK.[24]
Tiefenthaler guest-starred as Swiss police captain Dante Graf in the first season's third episode of CBS'sFBI: International( "Secrets as Weapons" ) in October 2021.[25]
In 2024, Tiefenthaler was cast asEdwin Bollierin the upcoming British television drama seriesLockerbie,commissioned byBBC Oneand Netflix.[26]
