Edward Lachman(born March 31, 1948) is an American cinematographer and director. He has primarily worked inindependent film,and has served as director of photography on films byTodd Haynes(includingFar from Heavenin 2002 andCarolin 2015, both of which earned LachmanOscarnominations[1]),Ulrich Seidl,Wim Wenders,Steven SoderberghandPaul Schrader.His other work includesWerner Herzog'sLa Soufrière(1977),Desperately Seeking Susan(1985),Sofia Coppola'sThe Virgin Suicides(1999),Robert Altman's final filmA Prairie Home Companion(2006), andTodd Solondz'sLife During Wartime(2009).[2]He is a member of theAmerican Society of Cinematographers.

In 1989, Lachman co-directed a segment of theanthology filmImagining America.[3]In 2002, he co-directed the controversialKen ParkwithLarry Clark.In 2013, Lachman produced a series of videos in collaboration with French electronic duoDaft Punk,for their albumRandom Access Memories.
Early life
editLachman was born to aJewishfamily[4]inMorristown, New Jersey,the son of Rosabel (Roth) and Edward Lachman, a movie theater distributor and owner.[5][6][7]He attendedHarvard Universityand studied in France at theUniversity of Toursbefore pursuing aBFAin painting atOhio University.[6]He has a daughter, Bella Lachman (b. 2005) who lives in Amsterdam.[8]
