Egriqash(Persian:اگريقاش,Kurdish:ئیندرقاش,alsoRomanizedasEgrīqāsh;also known asGarīfāsh)[1]is a village inMokriyan-e Gharbi Rural District,in theCentral DistrictofMahabad County,West Azerbaijan Province,Iran.At the 2006 census, its population was 2,911, in 578 families.[2]

Name
editHistorically, the name of this village wasIndirqash,of unknown origin, which was transformed byfolk etymologyintoAzeri TurkishÄgri-qash( "crooked eyebrow" ) orHündür-qash( "high eyebrow" ).[3]: 70 : 70
History
editAfter theIranian Revolutionin 1979, ShiaAzerbaijanirecruits in theIslamic Revolutionary Guard Corpsentered Egriqash and massacred the localKurdishpopulation.[4]
