Eiko Ando[1](An đằng vĩnh tử,Andō Eiko,May 8, 1934 – August 28, 2018)was a Japanese-American actress best known for her role as Okichi oppositeJohn WayneinThe Barbarian and the Geishain 1958.

Ando was born inHarbin,Heilong gian g,in the Japanese puppet state ofManchukuo(today NortheastChina), to a Japaneseindustrialist.When the Communists took over the family fled back to Japan. After her father died in 1953, she went to work as a singer and then as aburlesquedancer. When directorJohn Hustonwas looking for an actress for the part of Okichi, a friend of Ando's who worked in theTokyooffice of20th Century-Foxrecommended Ando to Huston. Once Huston saw her, after auditioning 33 other actresses, he and producerEugene Frenkewere done looking, mainly because of her height over the other women.[2][3]At the time of filming forThe Barbarian and the Geishashe was 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m)[citation needed].
Ando died inNew Yorkon August 28, 2018, at the age of 84.[4]
