Fridlund grew up inEdina, Minnesota.

She has a bachelor's degree fromPrincipia CollegeinIllinois,an MFA in fiction fromWashington University in St. Louis,and a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from theUniversity of Southern California.[1][2]

She currently lives in New York. She is married, and has one child.[1]

Fridlund is an assistant professor atCornell Universityin the Department of English.[3]

Fridlund's debut novel,History of Wolves,was a finalist for the 2017Man Booker Prize(one of six novels to be named to the shortlist) and thePEN/Robert W. Bingham Prizefor Debut Fiction.[4][5]In 2018,History of Wolveswon theSue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction.

Her 2017 collection of short stories,Catapult,won theMary McCarthy Prize.[6][7]

Her creative writing has appeared in many journals includingNew Orleans Review,Southwest Review,Boston ReviewandZYZZYVA.[8]
