A college student experiencing a recurring nightmare that foretells her family's demise returns home to find the person who can prevent it.

FilmmakerJon Wattsproduced and conceived the story for the sixth installment, and chose directing duoZach LipovskyandAdam Steinto helm the film from over 200 candidates.

Before the release ofFinal Destination 5in 2011, series actorTony Toddsaid that if the film were to be successful, two sequels would be filmedback-to-back.[1]In January 2019,New Line Cinemaannounced a new installment was in development.Patrick MeltonandMarcus Dunstanwrote the initial script, described as a "re-imagining" of the franchise.[2][3]In March 2020, series producer Craig Perry said the film would be set "in the world offirst responders"and featureEMTs,firefighters, and police officers. When asked if it was in the samecanonas the previous installments, he said, "Rebootis probably too strong of a word... it makes it sound like they're going to change everything, but it's definitely aFinal Destinationmovie ".[4]That October, series creatorJeffrey Reddickconfirmed a sixth film had been in the works prior to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[5]

In October 2021, Lori Evans Taylor was reported to be the new writer for the film.[6]In January 2022,HBO Maxannounced it would distribute the film,Jon Wattsjoined the project as a producer, and Taylor was confirmed to have written the screenplay alongsideGuy Busick.[7]That July, Reddick revealed the film would differ from the franchise's formula.[8]In September that year,Zach LipovskyandAdam Steinwere selected from over two hundred candidates to direct the film. During aZoom meetingwith executives and producers from New Line to make their pitch, Lipovsky and Stein staged a freak accident like the ones in the films at the end of the call; insiders said the joke, which featured a combination of prerecorded footage and visual effects and demonstrated the filmmakers' passion for the film, got them hired.[9]In September 2023, Todd officially signed on to reprise his role asWilliam Bludworth.The film will explore the character's backstory.[10]Despite Todd's death in November 2024, Warner Bros. confirmed that he had shot all of his scenes for the film.[11]In March 2024, it was announced that the film would be released in theaters byWarner Bros. Pictures.[12]Most of the cast was also revealed.[13]

Principal photographywas scheduled to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from July to October 2023,[14]but in mid-July, production was delayed due to theSAG-AFTRA strike.[15]WithChristian Sebaldtas cinematographer, filming instead took place in Vancouver from March 4 to May 13, 2024.[12][16]Tim Wynnwas hired to compose the score by December 2024.[17]

Final Destination Bloodlinesis scheduled to be released in the United States byWarner Bros. Pictureson May 16, 2025.[12][18]The film was filmed forIMAXand will be released in both IMAX and standard formats.[19]
