Star ranking

editA one-star rank is usually the lowest rankinggeneralorflag officer.[2]In manyCommonwealthcountries, the one-star army rank ofBrigadieris considered the highestfield officerrank.[3]
Two-star
editA two-star rank is usually the second lowest rankinggeneralorflag officer.[4]
Three-star
editA three-star rank is usually the third highestgeneralorflag officer.[5]
Four-star
editA four-star rank is usually the highest or second highest rankinggeneralorflag officer.[6]
Five-star
editA five-star rank is usually the highest rankinggeneralorflag officer.[7]This rank is usually afield marshal,general of the army,admiral of the fleetormarshal of the air force.
Proposed six-star
editIn theUnited States Armed Forces,asix-star rankis a proposed rank immediately superior to afive-star rank,possibly to be worn by theGeneral of the ArmiesorAdmiral of the Navy.This proposal has not been officially recognized by the military or Congress.
