Gâvres(French pronunciation:[ɡavʁ];Breton:Gavr) is acommunein theMorbihandepartmentofBrittanyin north-westernFrance.[3]French Navy MinisterHyde de Neuvillechose this place as a military testing area in 1829 for heavy marine ordnance.[4]The extensive experiments performed at sea have later provided part of the data upon whichHugoniot's theory is based.
