TheHot Digital Trackschart is a songpopularity chartthat ranks the best-selling digital tracks in the United States, as determined byBillboardmagazine.[1]It should not be confused with theHot Digital Songschart, which combines different versions of songs to provide a summarized figure. The Hot Digital Tracks chart allows separate charting forremixes, explicit or clean versions, and any other alternate versions, whereas the Hot Digital Songs chart only assigns one position to all versions of the same track.
Soundscanbegan tracking downloads at the end of June 2003, and the first download chart was created in July 2003.[2]However, the data from Hot Digital Songs was not included as a component for compiling theBillboardHot 100until January 2005. Digital songs with UPC (Universal Product Code) counts towards the Hot 100, while those without UPC do not.[3]
