Bell was born inToledo, Ohioand grew up inMesa, Arizona.He attendedArizona State University,earning a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master's in Business Administration. Bell worked as a sports reporter and anchor atNBCaffiliatesKYMAinYuma, ArizonaandWJHGinPanama City Beach, Florida.

Bell began freelance writing forCrackedin 2005. His first book inThe Amazing Adventures of Nate Banksseries,Secret Identity Crisis,was published byScholastic Booksin 2010.[2]

Since 2022, Bell has been a member of theSociety for American Baseball Researchwhere he contributes articles and chapters to SABR books.[3]
