editBorn in Sweden, Nyholm is of Filipino descent through his mother.[3]In early March 2017, he was contacted by thePhilippine Football Federationregarding playing for thePhilippines national team.[4][5]A month later, Nyholm revealed that upon speaking with his club coachRikard Norling,he was told that he had great potential and should wait for the possibility to play for theSweden national team.[3]
He was called up to the Philippines in May 2021.[6]He scored on his debut againstTimor-Lestein their 7–0 win.[7]
