John Richard Gordon Eastaugh(11 March 1920 – 16 February 1990) was anAnglicanbishopin the last third of the 20th century.[1]
He was born on 11 March 1920 and educated at theUniversity of Leedsandordainedin 1944. He was made adeacononTrinity Sunday1944 (4 June) byGeoffrey Fisher,Bishop of London,[2]and ordained apriestthe nextMichaelmas(23 September 1945) byRobert Moberly,Bishop of Stepney— both times atSt Paul's Cathedral.[3]He began his career with acuracyat All Saints'Poplar[4]and then heldincumbenciesatHackneyandHestonbefore being collatedArchdeacon of Middlesexin 1966.[5]Having beenelectedandconfirmedBishop of Herefordduring December 1973/January 1974,[6]he was ordained to theepiscopatebyMichael Ramsey,Archbishop of Canterbury,atWestminster Abbey[7]on 24 January 1974,[8]serving until he died in post 16 years later on 16 February 1990, aged 69.
