Johnny Yong Bosch(bornJohn Jay Bosch;January 6,[1]1976[2]) is an American actor. His first major role was the portrayal of Adam Park, the second on-screen Black Power Ranger and later, the Green Zeo Ranger and first Green Turbo Ranger in thePower Rangersfranchise, which led to roles in some martial arts television and feature films. editBosch was born John Jay Bosch on January 6, 1976 inKansas City, Missouriand raised inGarland, Texas.[3][4][5][6]Bosch was born to aKoreanmother and an American father ofIrishandGermandescent. He is the second of four children in his family.[7][4][8]His father was a soldier in the Army and met his mother while stationed inSouth Korea.He was interested in martial arts at an early age, inspired by martial arts movies andBruce Lee.[4][5]He taught himself martial arts at first,[5]mimicking moves from Lee as well asJackie Chan.[7]Bosch said he was ridiculed a lot when he was young and became a bully, but made a change for the better after studyingKung Fu.In addition to training in martial arts, in which he won several competitions, he also playedsoccer.[7][5]
Career
editPower Rangersand other projects
editBosch auditioned for thePower Rangersshow in Dallas after being informed of the audition by his martial arts instructor.[4]In 1994, he landed the role of Adam Park, the new Black Power Ranger, replacingWalter Emanuel Jonesin the second season ofMighty Morphin Power Rangers.Bosch said that when he got the part, he changed his middle name to Yong, which was part of his mother's given name, at the request ofSabanwho thought his credited name needed to be more Asian.[7]For the feature filmPower Rangers: The Movie,[4]he did all of his stunts after his stuntman had broken his leg.[7]He also noted that among all the different animal characters the Rangers got to be associated, his was associated to a frog.[9][8]InPower Rangers Zeo,Bosch's character became a Green Ranger. His final regular stint in the franchise was inPower Rangers Turbo,where his character passes his Green Turbo Ranger powers to a new member.[4]He played Adam in the second feature filmTurbo: A Power Rangers Movie.[7][4]In looking back at his acting for the show, Bosch said that "Power Rangers was a lot of fun but it was a kid's show and very cheesy because of it, which made getting work after that really hard. Plus, I didn't know squat about acting then."[4]His best friends on the set includedJason David Frank(who playedTommy Oliver),Jason Narvy(who playedSkull) andNakia Burrise(who playedTanya Sloan).[7]At the request ofPower RangersdirectorKoichi Sakamoto,he had a guest appearance in thePower Rangers Operation Overdriveepisode "Once A Ranger" in 2007 for the franchise's 15th anniversary, where he mentioned he got to go to New Zealand.[9]He and Narvy also starred in the filmWicked Game,also known asExtreme Heist,which was directed by Sakamoto and features several otherPower Rangersalumni.[10][11]
In July 2019, a crowdfunding campaign for the filmLegend Of The White Dragon,including Jason David Frank, Bosch, Jason Faunt, Ciara Hanna, Yoshi Sudarso, Chrysti Ane and Jenna Frank, was launched on kickstarter.[12]In 2020, he directed his first film,Ark Exitus,starring Jason Narvy.
In 2023, Bosch reprised the role of Adam Park in a 30th-anniversary special,Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,which was released onNetflixin April of that year.[13]

editBosch made his voice acting debut as Shōtarō Kaneda in the cult classic anime filmAkira.In 2001, he voiced main characterVash the Stampedein the animeTrigun,and later reprised the same role as Vash in the 2010 movieTrigun: Badlands Rumbleas well as in the 2023 ongoing anime reboot calledTrigun Stampede.He worked once again with Koichi Sakamoto on the filmBroken Path.Also in 2001,[citation needed]Bosch was also cast as the lead role ofIchigo Kurosakiin the hit shonen animeBleach.Among other works, Bosch also voicedLelouchinCode Geassin 2008, andIzaya OriharainDurararain 2011. In video games, Bosch has voiced Firion, the protagonist ofFinal Fantasy II,in the crossover gamesDissidia: Final FantasyandDissidia 012 Final Fantasy.In 2011, he voiced Yang inSuper Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition,the protagonistYu Narukamias well as the antagonistTohru Adachiin thePersona 4games and itsanime adaptation.In 2014, Bosch also voiced main character Hajime Hinata fromDanganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.In 2015, he voicedKung JininMortal Kombat X.Among video games, Bosch liked voicing Nero inDevil May Cry 4as he got to travel to Japan to do the motion capture. He reprise his role of voicing Nero in its followingDevil May Cry 5.In the same year, Bosch landed the role of Artemis inViz Media's redub ofSailor Moonas well asSailor Moon Crystal.Bosch also voiced lead character Nate Adams fromYo-kai Watchwhich has aired onDisney XDin the US.[14]
On July 4, 2017, he voiced Broccoli Punch in Cartoon Network'sMighty Magiswords,recording with fellow Power Rangers actorPaul Schrier.[15]He reprised his role as Broccoli Punch, as well as playing the Giant Monster and Whiney, in the second season two-part episode "The Incredible Tiny Warriors".
In 2019, Bosch replacedVic Mignognaas the voice ofBrolyandSabofor theFunimationdub of theDragon BallandOne Piecefranchises respectively, due to thesexual harassment allegations against Mignogna.[16]
Music
editBosch got involved in music by teaching himself how to play guitar. In his band Eyeshine, he provides vocals, songwriting, and guitar. He describes the type of music he plays as "Edge Rock. We're somewhere on the edge of sounding likegrunge,alt. rock,punkandpop."[4]His musical inspirations includeThe Beatles,Foo Fighters,Nirvana,Oasis,Led Zeppelinand also movie soundtracks.[9]
The band released an instrumental album calledSonosis.Bosch described the album as "something you could just listen to and could move you to feel something" and that "the titles were a reflection of the emotions we felt as we wrote the songs".[9]
The band gave their final performance atYama-Conin December 2017.[17]
In 2018, Johnny formed a new band with former Eyeshine guitarist Masataka "Polo" Yazaki called Where Giants Fall.[18]They released their first self-titled studio album on November 25, 2021.[19]
Personal life
editBosch married Amy Bosch on March 21, 2003. He has a daughter named Novi and a son named Jetson.[4][20][21][22]
