Kevin M. McCarthy(born 1940) is an American historian, professor and author.[1]He was born inGainesville, Floridaand returned to live and work there as a professor at theUniversity of Florida.He received the Charlton Tebeau Award (Charlton Tebeau) from theFlorida Historical Societyin 1994 forAfrican Americans in Florida: An Illustrated Historyand the Patrick Smith Literary Prize (Patrick Smith) from Library of theFlorida Historical Societyin 1999 forA River in Flood and Other Florida Stories by Marjory Stoneman Douglas.[2]
He has written books about various aspects of Florida's history including the history ofAfrican Americans in Florida,[3]He has also written about baseball and football in Florida.[4]
