King of Wolvesis written byBuronsonand illustrated byKentaro Miura.It was serialized inHakusensha'sMonthly Animal Housein 1989.[3]Its chapters were collected in a singletankōbon' volume, released on December 18, 1989.[4]A sequel, titledŌrō Den(Vương lang vân,"Legend of King of Wolves" ),was serialized inMonthly Animal Housein 1990.[3]Its chapters were collected in a singletankōbon,released on August 24, 1990.[5]Abunkobanvolume, which includes both series, was published on March 13, 1998.[6]Young Animal Zerostarted republishing the series on September 13, 2021.[7][8]

In North America,King of Wolveswas licensed for English release byDark Horse Comics.[9]The volume was published on May 25, 2005.[1]

InManga: The Complete Guide,authorJason Thompsongave the series 1½ out of four stars and wrote: "The only mildly amusing premise is basically an excuse for Miura to draw macho sword fights and hordes of cavalry. Miura's crosshatched art is not at the level ofBerserkor evenJapan,and the fight scenes are disappointing ".[10]
