Klaus Uwe Ludwig(16 September 1943 – 20 December 2019)[1]was a German church musician, concert organist and composer, who directed the church music at theLutherkircheinWiesbadenfor decades.

Ludwig was born inGöttingen.He studied first mathematics and physics inMannheim,then Protestant church music at theHochschule für Kirchenmusik Heidelberg.[2]He graduated in 1966 with the A-Exam, in 1967 with the concert diploma. He also studied voice and orchestral conducting in Mannheim.[2]He worked at theMelanchthonkirche[de]inMannheim,theStadtkirche[de]inKitzingenand for the regionalStadt- und BezirkskantoratinRegensburg.He was promoted toKirchenmusikdirektorin 1977. From 1978 to the end of 2008 he wasKantor(director of music) at theLutherkircheinWiesbaden.He founded and conducted theBachchor Wiesbaden,the Bach orchestra, theKleine Kantorei(Little chorale) and the Johann-Walter-Kreis, an ensemble forRenaissance music,especially sacred and secular music ofLuther's time.[2]In 2003, the Bachchor received theKulturpreis der Stadt Wiesbaden(Cultural prize of Wiesbaden).[3]

Ludwig conducted performances oforatorios,including less-known works and premieres. He performed around 125Bach cantatasin services.[2]As a concert organist, he performed compositions of all eras, including Bach's complete works (played twice) andMax Reger's complete works.[2]He played premieres of organ work byZsolt Gárdonyi,Theo Brandmüller,Harald Genzmer,Claus Kühnl,Rolf Schweizerand his own compositions. He also worked as a singer (bass-baritone), pianist, instrument builder, stage director, arranger, librettist, author and editor.[4]
