Lazar was born at Gerenda,Hungaryon May 10, 1850. Receiving his diploma as rabbi while a mere youth, he went to Berlin, where he attended the lectures of Dr.Israel Hildesheimeratthe rabbinical seminary,as well as those at the university. He graduated (Ph.D.) from theUniversity of Bern.For eleven years he officiated as rabbi atTemesvár,Hungary.
In 1892, he moved toJerusalemon invitation to be director of the JewishorphanageatJerusalem.There he was active in teaching and inZionistpolitical activism.He was active in theMizrachimovement and was their representative in theZionist Congress.
He died inPetah Tikvaon February 2, 1913.
