Early life and education
editRoberts was born inSuffolk.He was educated atWoodbridge SchoolandSwansea University,where he read American Studies. Afterwards, he graduated from theLondon Academy of Music and Dramatic Artin 2000.[1]
Career
editIn 2001, Roberts made his television debut in the war drama miniseriesBand of Brothersin the episode "Crossroads".[2]From 2004 to 2005, he appeared on the second episode ofSky One'sMile High.In 2005, Roberts made his film debut in the thriller movie by Nicolas Forzy titledAmbition.He portrayed Doctor Joseph Byrne in theBBC One's medical drama seriesHolby City.[3]In 2011, he appeared in the fantasy swashbuckler filmPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.[4]
Roberts starred in the 2013 fantasy horror film byPearry Reginald TeotitledDracula: The Dark PrincealongsideJon Voight,Kelly WenhamandBen Robson,in which he played the lead role ofDracula.[5]He bagged a recurring role in the first season ofThe CW's historical romantic drama seriesReign.In 2014, he appeared in the epic historical action film300: Rise of an Empire.On the same year, he took on a supporting role in the action comedy police procedural seriesTaxi Brooklynand appeared on the first season of theBBC TwoWolf Hall,which is based on the book of thesame name about 1500s England.In 2016, Roberts joined the cast ofStarz'sBlack Sailsas GovernorWoodes Rogers,a formidable foe to the pirates ofNassau.[6]He also appeared as the legendary knight Ser Arthur Dayne in sixth season ofHBO'sGame of Thrones.[7]
In 2017, Roberts was cast to play the lead role in the crime suspense drama seriesRansom[8]where he played the lead character named Eric Beaumont. The series ran for 1 January 2017, to 25 May 2019. In 2019, he had a recurring role in the drama miniseriesThe Rookas Marcus Kevler.
In 2022, Roberts appeared in the superhero filmThe Batmanand had a supporting role in the fantasy horror filmDampyr.[9][10]
In 2023, Roberts starredAlly Makiin the drama filmSeagrass.[11][12]
