Early life

Sloan grew up on a farm.[2]He studiedgeologyin university.[1]

Career

Sloan got his start in the film industry as a "runner" andpyrotechnicianfor the special effects team ofFortress(1992)in 1991.[1][3][4]

He began transitioning from special effects to visual effects around 2000.[1]

As the filming forStar Wars: Episode II – Attack of the ClonesandStar Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sithwere moved to Australia, Sloan filled in for the role ofJedi MasterPlo Koondue to financial practicality as he matched the height of the previous actor.[2]He was the leadanimatronicsforeman forEpisode IIand was the droid unit technician forEpisode III.[2]

Sloan has worked as a technical director onAvatar(2009),The Avengers(2012),andThe Hobbit(film series)forWeta Digital.[3]

In 2013, he moved from Weta to20th Century Fox,where he worked as a visual effects supervisor on theX-Men (film series)andThe Martian(2015).[3]
