Munehisa Sakai(Japanese:Cảnh tông lâu,Hepburn:Sakai Munehisa,born September 1, 1971)is a Japaneseanimedirector. He joinedToei Animationin 1992, where he directed part ofOne Piece,Suite PreCure,andSailor Moon Crystal.After leaving Toei Animation and joiningMAPPAin 2017, he has directedZombie Land Saga,Mr Love: Queen's Choice,andDance Dance Danseur.Sakai later joinedStudio Kaiin 2022.[2]

Biography
editWhile in an animator school, one of the teachers introduced Sakai toToei Animation,which he joined in 1992.[3][4]From 2006 to 2008, Sakai directedOne Piece;Sakai also directedOne Piece Film: Strong Worldin 2009.[5][6]One Piece Film: Strong Worldwon the award for excellence in animation of at the year and was nominated for animation of the year at the34th Japan Academy Film Prize.[7]In 2011, Sakai directedSuite PreCure.[8]In 2014, he directedSailor Moon Crystal.[9]
In 2017, Sakai left Toei Animation and joinedMAPPA.[4]In 2018, Sakai directedZombie Land Saga.[10]The series won the animation of the year award in the television category at theTokyo Anime Awards Festivalin 2019.[11]It was also nominated for anime of the year at the 2019Crunchyroll Anime Awards.[12]In 2020, he directedMr Love: Queen's Choice.[13]In 2022, Sakai will direct the anime adaptation ofDance Dance Danseur.[14]
In 2022, Sakai left MAPPA, and joinedStudio Kai.[2]Later, he directed and made the storyboard for third episode of7th Time Loopwhich aired on January 21, 2024.[15]
