Naveen William Sidney Andrews(born 17 January 1969)[1]is aBritish-Americanactor. He is best known for his role asSayid Jarrahin the television seriesLost(2004–2010), for which he was nominated for aGolden Globe Awardand aPrimetime Emmy Award,as well as winning aScreen Actors Guild Awardalong with the cast. He has also appeared in films such asThe English Patient(1996),Mighty Joe Young(1998),Rollerball(2002),Bride and Prejudice(2004),Planet Terror(2007),The Brave One(2007), andDiana(2013). In 2022, he portrayedRamesh "Sunny" Balwaniin theHuluminiseriesThe Dropout.[2]

Early life
editAndrews was born on 17 January 1969 inLambeth,London,[2]to Nirmala, apsychologist,and Stanley Andrews, a businessman, both immigrants fromKerala,India.[3]He was brought up as aMethodist.[4]
Andrews's relationship with Geraldine Feakins began in 1985, when Andrews was 16 and Feakins was 30.[5]
Career
editAndrews auditioned for drama school and was accepted at London'sGuildhall School of Music and Drama.[2]His studies paid off when he won a role inHanif Kureshi's filmLondon Kills Me(1991).[2]Andrews starred in the 1993BBCminiseriesBuddha of Suburbia.[2]He portrayed Kip Singh inThe English Patient(1996),[2]andSayid Jarrahin the popular television seriesLost(2004–10).[2]
In 2006, he was voted one ofPeoplemagazine's World's Most Beautiful People.[6]

Michael Straczynski) as Jonas. From 2018 to 2019, he co-starred as ex-MI6 and CIA officer Julian Cousins in the seriesInstinct,[2]alongsideAlan CummingandBojana Novakovic.In 2022 Andrews co-starred withAmanda Seyfriedas Theranos COO Sunny Balwani in theHululimited seriesThe Dropout.[2]
Personal life
editAndrews's relationship with Geraldine Feakins lasted from 1985 to 1991. Their son, Jaisal Andrews, was born in 1992.[5]He was later in a relationship with actressBarbara HersheyinLos Angeles,starting in 1998. The couple separated briefly in 2005 and, during that time, Andrews had a son withCzech-French actress Elena Eustache. He and Hershey later reconciled,[7]but in 2010, they announced that they had separated.[8][9]Andrews was in a long custody dispute with Eustache over their son, and on 7 January 2009, he was granted sole legal and physical custody.[10]
Andrews has spoken about hisalcoholismand his two-yearaddictiontoheroinin the mid-1990s. He has described an incident in which he collapsed on set and was treated by emergency services.[11]
He plays guitar[12]and sings, whiletap dancingto his own tune as a hobby. He became anaturalisedU.S. citizen on 27 May 2010.[13]
