Neustadt am Rübenberge(Low German:Niestadt) is a town in thedistrict of Hannover,inLower Saxony,Germany.At 357km2(138sq mi), it is the 9th largest settlement in Germany by area (followingBerlin,HamburgandCologne), though only about 45,000 inhabitants live there. It is in a region known as theHanoverian Moor Geest.

Founding

Neustadt am Rübenbergewas founded around 1200, and recorded as anova civitas(lit. 'new city') in 1215. In 1426 it was recorded asNienstadt vor dem Rouwenbergeund in 1523 asNygestadt.
