Norm Peterson (politician)

Norman Thomas "Norm" Peterson(born 1939[1]) is an independent Australian politician who held the seat ofSemaphorein theSouth Australian House of Assemblyfrom the1979to the1993 elections.

He was officially "Independent Labor",[2][3]and helped theBannonLabor government secure government after the1989 elections,serving asSpeaker of the South Australian House of Assemblyfrom 1990 to 1993.[1]

After his seat was abolished in a redistribution, he ran unsuccessfully for theLegislative Councilin 1993. He received 1.14% of the vote, well short of the 8.3% required (after preferences) to be elected.

Peterson in his youth competed atbo xing,rugby union,androwing.He also worked as awaterside workerinPort Adelaide.[1]
