Nungessersis the name of the confluence of roads that meet at theHudsonandBergencounty line atNorth BergenandFairviewinnortheastern New Jersey.The area is the former site of the Nungesser's Gutenberg Racetrack, a late 19th-century gaming and gambling venue.[1][2]The neighborhood just south of Nungesser's is called theRacetrack Sectionand the municipality ofGuttenbergis nearby. AWhite Castle,an early drive-in fast-food chain, originally built in the 1930s has long been a landmark in the neighborhood,[3]as has adjacent North Hudson Park.[4]

editA major street that begins at Nungesser's isBergenline Avenuewhich travelling south becomes the main shopping district ofNorth Hudson.Just over the county line it becomes Anderson Avenue, travelling north through the urban easternBergenHudson Palisadescommunities ofFairview,Cliffside ParkandFort Lee.The other roads which meet in the district areKennedy Boulevard,Bergen Boulevardand Fairview Avenue from the west. To the eastBoulevard EastandWoodcliff Avenueconnect to the northboundPalisade Avenuein the park.[5]

editNungessers is a major transittransferpoint andterminusfor public bus transportation.[6]SeveralNew Jersey Transit bus lineseither originate/terminate or pass through the area, as do many privately operatedjitney(dollar van) routes. Service from bus stops situated in the area travels to points inHudsonandBergenand to thePort Authority Bus Terminaland theGeorge Washington Bridge Bus StationinManhattan.[7][8][9][10]Jitneys travel southbound toBoulevard East,Hudson County Courthouse,Newport Mall,42nd Street (Manhattan),and northbound along Anderson Avenue toGeorge Washington Bridge Plaza.[11]
